Hey everyone. I run 5 miles in the morning 3 times a week before I have any breakfast or anything as I heard this is good for using the fat deposits in your body for glycogen. I'm not overweight or even chubby by any means but I am training to do the marathon this year but I figured if I did this and keep up my weight training it'd get me pretty lean.

Now I'm starting to worry this could be putting my body in a state of catabolism if I keep it up. I get in 1g per lb of bw if that makes any differnece. So should I get breakfast in before my run then or is what I'm doing not going to make to much of a difference for the muscle I already have?

    Thanks for the help people:D

i do this all the time and often further then 5M / 8K - If you are doing 8k three times per week I wouldnt worry about doing it on an empty stomach - BUT, make sure you feel ok while running, some people dont run well on empty and have breakfast as soon as possible after the run ...

also keep the intensity low to minimise the catabolism and consider taking some BCAA's

Don't worry about it. The key factor is that you are keeping up the weight training - so as long as you do this you won't get that skinny 'runners' look. You'll be lean for sure, but you will also look like you lift weights. Re not eating before your run if you don't find this affects your performance then no worries, but don't not eat just because you think it will give you an edge fat-loss wise, i.e. don't sacrifice running form for a very minor (if any) added fat burning effect.

K thats great thanks for the info :). Think it will interfere to much with building muscle. Im starting the starting strength program today.
