Anyone know of any screen overlay software?

    This is hard to explain.

If you look at this picture, you can see a semi-transparent overlayed image on the screen.

I would like to find some software for OSX which would allow me to overlay an image on my screen, while using other software. Any ideas at all?

    Thanks a million!

I could be wrong but as far as I know, this is something that would need to be incorporated into the UI design of the overlayed window. I'm not sure if OS X has the ability to alter the opacity of any specified window or application.

What do you need to overlay? One thing in particular or any window you like? And do you just need to overlay an image or does it need to be a properly-functioning application (clickable buttons, etc).

If its just an image, it would be a lot easier to find something I imagine.

womoma - are you looking to have a watermark image displayed on the screen at all times?

I wouldn't think it's possible without re-engineering the video driver of the system.

I'm sure its possible alright, I think the question is just whether a suitable application exits for his purposes.

I know of several applications that allow the user to specify the level of opacity/transparency (Growl and Terminal for example, off the top of my head) so in theory I think it would be very easy to develop an application that just displays a semi-opaque, always-on-top image while it is running.

Here's a possible solution: Create a dashboard widget containing the image you want to use as the watermark.

Detach the widget from the Dashboard

Yes an image overlayed would be great, moveable or otherwise, but semi-transparency is the important thing, aswell as staying on top whilst other applications are used.

I know it can be done as I've seen it done. The example I gave is actual software, not a photoshop job.

Talisman, cheers Ill have a look at that now.

yes but in the example you give isnt the opaque(right word??) image a plug in that is running in the host software ie pro tools and that you need to have pro tools running to have that plug in running? so its running in pro tools and not in osx if you know what i mean.

I'm not 100 sure as I don't use Novation Automap.

Either way, I would be confident that it could be done, it's just a question of where to find such software.

I don't know if there's any software out there that does it, but if you can find a Mac developer with some spare time on his hands it should be pretty easy to knock something like that together.
