Hi, I had previously posted the post below in the Security forum but have received no replies, so I am trying here instead. I would really appreciate if someone could get back to me about it...... I am not worried about a virus per se as my computer is not running any slower more one of those virus' that allow someone to tap into your computer and see what you are writing.

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Thanks

I have a feeling my laptop may have been hacked potentially over my secure wireless broadband. Last night I was on my laptop logged into MSN and suddenly I got a message to say that I had gotten an email from my mum but she asleep in the room next to me.....I then did something REALLY stupid i clicked on the link in the email sent from her BJ-Trade.com or something (the email was in connection to electronic products) but the page did not load up as I quickly caught my self on.

The question is what do i do now... obviously I will call the bank and let them know and change passwords etc but what can i do with my laptop to ensure that if it has been hacked I get the f*cker away from me

Any help greatly appreciated as I clueless about all things computer-y. I have up to ate anti virus software.

    Thanks

You should have a look at the sticky "I think I have a virus" and follow the advice in there

When you run a scan does it come back clean?, what anti virus software are you running?

You should also download superantispyware or Spybot S&D update them and then run a scan for spyware

check your taskmanager (right click on taskbar and select taskmanager) and check there are no unusual processes running, if you aren't already you should only be using an account on your PC that has limited rights and save the administer account for the times when you need it.

You should ensure that your OS is fully patched and auto updates are switched on, if your scans are clean and you arent noticing any ill effects then you are probably ok but if you want to be sure you can download a copy of "hijack this" run a scan and post the log in one of the specialist virus forums and get an expert to have a look.

Thank you, I am using Norton Anti- Virus software which is completely up to date.

I noticed the sticky after i posted here and I ran SpyBot, it turned up a few things which I have deleted and from then my computer has been fine.

But thank you for your help I appreciate it. And thanks for tip on the Administrator account i never knew that. i am currently using the Administrator account as my main login so i will change that
