hitting the big 30 this year and it seems my perfectly thin body is no more. i have in the past few months noticed some bits growing on my sides so much so i can't fit into one or two fav jeans/trousers.

have picked up my running/walking again and have started new eating habits. am hoping to fit into my trousers by vday weekend.

i suppose what im asking is how long till i notice a change or is there anything else i can do to help get myself back to the way i looked??

Molly, all I can say is keep it real, and you will stay the real you.

Use your old jeans as a target and ban the scales and mags.

If fitness and your normal shape is your goal, and weight drops gradually- then its healthy and right.

I hate magazines. They are a mind fúck.

The guys over on the Fitness forum are great for advice, helping set targets, etc., (or so g'em tells me :)) so I'm going to move this over there. Not saying you won't get good advice here, but those guys really are the experts.

    Hi OP and welcome:)

I have a feeling it would be really worthwhile for you to take a look over the stickies to start with - lots of great nutrition and exercise related advice there.

Simple prescription - cut out most or all junk food for the first 2-3 weeks to start with, up the exercise and consider weight training - if you want to notice a change for the better in your physique as well as burning calories all day long it will work wonders for you.

What are these habits? typical days diet?

Many can wrongly presume they have good eating habits, while they can be terrible.

Also are you weighing your food? you really need to, or else there is no way of controlling your portion sizes.

i'm a really small person 5ft so don't have large portions anyhow. i'm a full time student and half the time am not eating properally as am always on the go.

habits would be eating food from chipper i guesss. now that that often maybe 1 or 2 a week. i don't smoke and don't drink that much. and when i do drink it's coors light.but i did drink lots of coke. figured i was allowed since i don't drink tea or coffee.

1 to 2 chippers a week would do it alright, as would the coke. It's liquid sugary death. Tasty, but absolutely terrible for you.

If you can cut these out you'd see a great improvement.
