I subscribe to BT and they sent me a ZyXEL Presitge 660RU ADSL Router, but I want to connect another PC and get a WiFi connection for my laptop. I have a Netopia 3347 WiFi Gateway which should do the trick, but the problem is I don't know too much about computers and am worried that I'll have problems if I swop the routers. Can anyone advise me if I can swop them and how to do it.

If you're going to swap out the ZyXEL entirely, you'll need to enter the new username and password, along with connection parameters for the ADSL connection into the Netopia router. This can be a bit tricky.

The alternative is to pick up a seperate wifi router. You take the cable currently going into your PC, and plug it into the back of this. Then another cable goes from this to your PC. You'll be able to connect 4 PCs by wire, and it also have Wifi for your laptop.

Of course, there is no harm in trying the netopia first, it won't break the ZyXEL one! You need to be looking at the PPPoE settings in the ZyXEL, and copy them across to the Netopia. Good luck!

It's as easy as pie to do. If it helps just check the original router settings and write them down , user id / pass primary / secondary dns etc and then enter into replacement router. No rocket science required. I was able to instruct my aunt in doing this over the phone and thats a woman who pauses before hitting the enter key every single time for fear of breaking something :D
