I wouldn't normally post info on raffles and charity do's (and if this conflicts with policy rules etc, mods feel free to remove thread), but since this is a charity event, and after checking out the pictures of the car, due the nature and condition of the 1st prize: a what seems to be a truly exceptionally well restored, original Irish Morris Minor(!!) prompted me to post the info here....

    ++++++++++++
    Hello,

We would be very grateful if you could help promote this very special event. Photos of the Morris Minor are available on www.turbo.ie

Any assistance you could give us on this would be gratefully appreciated,

    kindest Regards

Morris Minor to be raffled in aid of Galway RNLI

Kind Hearted Families donate Morris Minor to the RNLI

In the hope that lives can be saved at sea

The website www.turbo.ie is dedicated to the memory of Margaret Kilgarriff and Paul Tonge, a young couple who died tragically in a ferry disaster off the coast of Sumatra in Indonesia on January 19th 1996.

Margaret and Paul had taken a year sabbatical to go travel and see the world in 1994. On the return leg of their adventure they decided to visit Indonesia when the tragic accident occurred.

Paul had started to renovate an old Morris Minor and had left the car in the garage for repair. Paul adored his Morris Minor and they both went to every possible Vintage Rally around the country meeting other car enthusiasts.

Paul's family have kindly donated his Morris Minor to the Lifeboats in the hope that by raising money through this raffle more lives will be saved at sea.

The car has been completely overhauled and refurbished back to its original glory by Charles Wares Morris Minor Centre, including new engine and completely lovingly restored original features. Before and after pictures are available for viewing on www.turbo.ie.

The car is being raffled on www.turbo.ie and proceeds from the raffle will go the lifeboat station at Galway which was established over 13 years ago because of the increasing number of search and rescue incidents in the city area. The families hope that funds raised from this raffle will go towards maintaining the RNLI service in Galway to ensure that no other family will suffer the loss that the Kilgarriff and Tonge families have.

To win this fantastically restored Morris Minor please log onto www.turbo.ie today and buy your ticket for only 25euro. The last day for purchase of tickets is 7th February, so please hurry up and buy your tickets now as all monies raised will go to the Galway RNLI.

For more information please contact Pat Lavelle on email admin@turbo.ie

The R.N.L.I. are a really good cause, but am i missing something? They value the minor at 18.500eu??

I'd take the cash alternative and run!!

Imagine trying to sell on the minor looking for €18k in today's economic climate

You don't want the Morris, you take the cash. Where's the problem?

I think we're missing the point here lads, the Minor seems to be in an absolutely superbly restored condition and it's an original Irish Minor....

I think the 18,5k 'estimate' is very much ott to be honest, but I don't think it is relevant here. It's a prize in raffle.... you participate if you want to support the RNLI or if you're interested in winning a unique Minor, not as to how much Cash can be extracted if you were to win the prize... There's plenty of lotteries and scratch cards for those sort of prizes...

And in any case I'm not sure that they are offering a Cash alternative.

I wasnt disputing that,i just thought 18k seemed alot, even though the car seems absolutly top notch,it has a 6 year paint warranty:eek:.

Anything that helps the RNLIis a good thing.

I didn't mean to rain on the RNLI parade, I will be supporting it by buying a ticket, it's a great cause and the raffle is a great idea.

In the unlikely event of my ticket coming up I'll be taking the cash. Aside from the over valuation, Moggy's aren't my cup-o-tea anyway ;)

I bought one, better odds than the Lotto.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
