Breathing Problems

I am back doing some running after I broke a bone in Feb. I was off for 7 months and am now doing 5-7 miles 3 days a week, at about a 81/2 to 9 min mile. I am having problems breathing with a phlegm type congestion in the base of my throat which restricts me breathing after a few miles. I can sometimes bring small amounts ofit up at the time but mostly it just builds up and I can sometimes feel that it blocks my hearing as I run. My brething restricts my running every time and my legs do not get tired. I feel I could run further if I could breathe better. Any ideas, has anyone else suffered anything like this, could it be viral. It is not a chest infection as I have had an X Ray.

Have you asthma? It sounds like it, or possibly sports/exercise induced asthma. It might be something less serious, like a lactose intolerance that might lead to excess phlegm. you'll have to go to your doctor to see if you have asthma though.
