Hi guys slightly strange request here - mods, feel free to move if you can think of a more appropriate forum.

Basically I am looking for some online resource that gives the top companies in various industries on a worldwide basis (Top could be in terms of Revenue, Market Cap, or some standard mean across all of them).

For example I would like to find out the Top 10 Automotive Companies or Top 10 Transport and Logistics Companies.

I have struggled to find anywhere on the net that has multiple industries profiled. The closest I have come is Yahoo's Industry Browser but it's listings seem to have a heavy U.S. focus omitting some major global companies but including relatively smaller U.S. based ones.

Has anybody seen anything like this somewhere?

Maybe, try the Fortune Global 500 (or 2000). It will list firms worldwide by revenue. You could probably pick out the top 10 (at least, to some degree) of each industry from that. I'm drawing a blank at the moment on anything else. If I think of something better, then I'll post it up...

Here's the 500 list, anyway. That site does disaggregate, to some extent, by industry. Just click the "top industries" tab.
