    Hi,

I have decided i want a projector for my bedroom as it looks neater than a tv on the wall. Can anyone help me pick a projector that is suitable. I dont need a really high performance one as i watch most tv on my pioneer 50" in the main room.

I had planned on getting a dvd player and also getting a wireless box to transmit my ntl digital to the bedroom from the main room. Hope i have provided enough info for someone to help me.

    Thanks in advance,

Depends on your budget and what you expect. Have you seen any projectors in action ? Do you know what to expect in terms of picture quality etc. ?

If you're interested in an entry level model, have a look at the Optoma HD65, 1280x720 dlp projector, £499 from richersounds, should do the job nicely for you.

Tks for the reply ritz. My friend has a basic enough one and the quality seemed reasonable. Think he bought it on ebay for about £200 2nd hand.

I don't want to spend a fortune but money isnt really the main factor, i just want to get something reasonably good. I will probably only use it when i'm hungover to watch grand prix etc!!

Do all projectors have a speaker built in? I dont want to clutter my room with extra speakers etc.

Home cinema projectors do not as a rule have speakers built in, but
Epson have come out with some new models intended for gaming and general entertainment which do.............. check out here: http://www.misco.ie/productinformation/~Q145248~WW~/Epson%20EH-DM2%20Home%20Cinema%20Projector.htm

I can't make any personal comment or recommendation on this particular model - I haven't seen it in action, but you should note that its standard definition, 848x480 pixels. The noise level is a bit on the high side at 29db, bt then the speakers should mask the worst of that. Further details and a user comment on Komplett.ie: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=396315, although Komplett are dearer in price. At around €500 with a three year warantee on the projector AND the lamp, you couldn't go too far wrong, particularly when usual home cinema type application is not your main aim.

There is a HDReady model in the same vein - see http://www.misco.ie/productinformation/~137159~WW~/Epson%20EMP-TWD10%20Home%20Cinema%20Projector%20%26%20FREE%2080%20%20wide%20screen.%20Integrated%20DVD%20Player%2C%204-speaker%20system%20%26%20Special%20Games%20Mode.htm, but a €750 it's quite pricey.

I have had no dealings with the site in these links - it's one that came up in a Google search for these projectors. You should do a bit more research and satisfy yourself that this is the kind of model you're looking for and do some price checking.

Also consider getting a basic projector from the likes of Komplett.ie, most standard presentation type projectors will have some sort of a speaker built in, but the sound quality won't be up to much.

Optoma also do a all in one projecotor... the DV11.

I had one of the DV10, the older model, and it was a great little machine a couple of years back. A great little projector for the money.

Built in sound and DVD player... Match it up to the optional 50W Subwoofer and you have a serious little 2.1 standalone home Theatre system.

This projector is only 480p res so I would not go for a screen size over 86" diagional, beacuse larger screens show up pixelation depending on viewing distance.

    Hi there,

I'm doing a lot of reading about projectors and this site explains all.

Has anybody played with the Acer Projector X1160, 2000 ANSI?

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=342123

I'm looking for a low cost item with fairly reasonable output

480 is US standard Def. Looks rubbish with Irish/Eu TV which is 576 lines for SD.

2000 Lumens is presentation Brightness. In a Bedroom, it's likely even 700 Lumens is bright, though it depends on screen size, i.e. 36" projection is x 4 brighter than 72" projection from same projector.

I took delivery of my new Acer Projector X1160

Picture quality is fantastic compared to my 6 year old X1.

Philips HS DVD surround system and Sony 350 blu ray connected to it, phono and S video, no hdmi on projector or dvd player.

It cost €230 only from Komplett and it will be my main projector until I get the new 1080p dark crystal chip 4 at the end of the year.
