    Hi there,

Were getting married in early august and we're looking to book our honeymoon. Our budget is 3000-4500(+ for something a little special etc).

We're reluctant to go slob somewhere for say 2 weeks on a beach and were hoping to maybe do a split trip, i.e. vegas for a few nights then cancun, or venice for a few days then on to a resort etc. Where do you go / who do you contact to arrange these types of holidays? My appologies for my ignorance i've never booked a holiday before that wasnt on a package website!

anyone who's honeymooned recently with some advice on destination etc? doesnt neccessarily have to be the US, just something for 7-14 days with some interesting stuff to do.

We did the Maldives & Dubai split trip, I would highly recommend the Maldives, Dubai is hit & miss, if you love bling and shopping then it's a mecca.

It depends what time of year you're travelling as some places have a monsoon season or are too hot in summer.

    Have a look at Escape2.ie

I've heard Zanzibar is a great spot for Honeymoon - saw some pics and it does look special. Could always take in a safari too or some other part of Africa if you wanted to split the trip.

Vegas and Hawaii is a very popular choice for honeymoon, but I was in Vegas last August and it was VERY, VERY hot! I don't know if I would go that time of year again (picture opening an oven door and sticking your head in, that's how hot it felt some days!) What about San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hawaii?

In my opinion, travel agents are great for getting advice from, but I would always book independantly, it's nearly always cheaper and gives you greater flexibilty with hotels etc. What date are you getting married in August? If it's the last two weeks, then that would be considered off-peak time in the States anyway, so there may be bargains to be had.

how about something like south africa (you've got sun city for the vegas equivalent, then kruger national park, then cape town and the wine regions), then on to namibia for some more amazing nature. just a thought really but would be pretty awesome imho.

actually check the weather as it would be winter

She is both prone to sea sickness and claustrophobic, I had asked her if she was interested but it didnt sound like fun to her. thanks anyway, I do appreciate the input.

I don't have one, nearly bought a few months ago and lost it... thankfully :)

Point taken on Vegas, it is in the middle of the desert after all :)

My friend from SA has me driven demented to go with him so I'll put this off until he can go with us and show us around. thanks for the advise!

I'm dealing with twohigs at the moment, they seem really really good.

If you're going to Hawaii, just fly to the US & book it there. Last time I was in LA I saw a travel agents offering a week in the Marriott Waikiki inc flights for $350 ea. Was actually tempted to go but we were staying with friends.

Life is WAAAAY to short for that kinda penny pinching.

    Getting married in mid july.
Vegas, Hawaai, Alaskan Cruise, Rockies train trip and a few days in New York taking up about 4 weeks. Its a once in a lifetime trip.

    Twohigs are great for longhaul.

I'd look at the Maldives - with a couple of nights in Dubai. I know you said you're not the lounging around the beach type. But the diving, snorkelling and peace and solitude were my idea of heaven. Service is top and
you'll never forget the natural beauty of the region. Just check your
dates as there are two monsoon seasons in the area.

Another recommendation of mine would be Playa del Carmen, it's much nicer than Cancun and is only 45 minutes south. Decent sized resort and
due to it's location it's nearer most of the tourist sites than Cancun itself
    (Tulum, Chichen Itza, etc).

I love Cuba but would not recommend for a honeymoon - the service and food are not up to scratch compared to other places
and I'm guessing as it's your honeymoon you want everything perfect.

True. We went to Cuba for our honeymoon and hubby returned home with gastroenteritis. :o Food was definately not one of the trip's highlights.

The beaches are fantastic tho and we drank the whole place dry. Locals are very friendly and attentive.
