No satellite signal received on Sky box

I have an existing Sky+ box with a quad LNB on the dish. The sky+ box uses channel 2 and 3 on the LNB and works nicely.

I then ran coax from channel 1 on dish to an old sky box (grundig). I want to use this box to pick to the free to air channels instead of paying for sky multiroom.

I cannot pick up a satelite signal on this box. I checked my connections and swapped to use channel 4 on the LNB but to no avail. I still have my sky+ connection working fully throughout this with full signal strength. I turned off the sky+ box while I worked on the dish just in case plugging a cable in to a powered LNB would blow it.

What am I missing. Do I need a hidden setting to power the other ports of the LNB. Can it work from an old sky box or do I need the freesat boxes from the North. I tried my sky viewing card as a test and it picked it up but still no signal from the dish.

    Any help appreciated.

Did you try plugging one of the cables currently going into the Sky+ box to rule out the old skybox? Could be a faulty tuner.

That was my next step. I wanted to be sure that this setup should actually work. Cheers.

    OK an update.

I connected the old skybox to one of the SKY+ box inputs from the dish and it worked. Then I tried it again on the cable upstairs and it still was not working. That meant that the cable or the LNB was faulty. I ran the cable myself and was happy with the setup and connections therefore the some LNB outputs faulty.

I then plugged my SKY+ box in to the upstairs connection and it worked. When I plugged in the original grundig box back in to that connection it also worked. Does a working box have to activatate a LNB channel or is the LNB just a dummy junction box ?

So now I have my SKY+ working downstairs and my freeview off the old SKY box upstairs with no sky card plugged in to this. Very happy with this.

My next problem is the EPG on the old sky box contains all the sky channels including RTE etc. It obviously will not allow me to view the non-freeview ones without a sky card. So, how do you get the EPG to display only the freeview ones. I know I can plug in the card, go to skynews, press red, and pull the skycard and this will give me the freeview EPG. Can the freeview EPG be forced any other way ?
