    ..or this will happen:
    www.vhtamp.com

VHT (a US maker of high-quality valve amps) had apparently forgotten to renew their trademark (name/logo), so a Chinese company (AXL) took it instead :pac:

The amps on that page have NOTHING to do with the US VHT amps, they are not licenced copies or anything like that.. just cheap Chinese amps with the VHT logo slapped on. Talk about opportunism :D

VHT are going to rename themselves as 'Fryette Amplification'....doesnt quite have the same ring to it...

Don't forget to get your story right!

Steven Fryette, the man behind VHT came up with some new ideas for amps and decided that he would like to put his name to it has he felt it is his best work so far. Rather than dropping the VHT name entirely he sold the name to AXL who will use it for their low end practice amps.

To be honest,i prefer the first story. Doesnt make mr. fryette seem like as much of an oppurtunistic sellout .

Awesome use of rolleyes, always makes for a great discussion!

Actually, it seems im wrong about the trademark expiring, but that's the info that was going around when I read it first.

But anyway, he certainly didn't 'sell' the name willingly the way you suggest. (So Don't forget to get your story right!) There was some legal wranglings; they gave him a loan of $150,000 at some stage and he defaulted on it... and they took ownership of the brand and sued him when he kept using it. Eventually he gave up and realised it was a case he would lose.

But whatever, that wasnt the focus of what I wanted to talk about; it was the Chinese made amps with the EXACT logo and name on it, despite having nothing to do with the US amps. Seems like a gas situation, and one that could cause a lot of confusion..
