Just confirmed that the game is OFF.

Quite happy really - no Ireland, no SWP and Robinho is crocked. Lovely.

Will Ireland's suspension carry on to the next game?

    FT Villa 2-1 WBA

Got a bit hairy at the end! I'll have to take another look at Young's tackle (no jokes please), but that's the kind of tackle that so often leads to penalties and angry managers :D

    COME ON LIVERPOOL! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,177 ✭✭✭DenMan

2-1 to the Villa, FT result. They are up to third now. Great for them, not great for me. Come on Arsenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,813 ✭✭✭✭JPA

Villa scraped it alright and hung on.
We've been doing that an awful lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

Jeez they're all out to impress City today - first Owen scores then Ballamy equalises from a Parker assist. Now all we need is a Given wonder save!

Everton 2-0 (Arteta). Boro 1-0 up (Alves)

Dissapointed to see the games called off today,

I was under the impression you had to have some sort of measure in place to prevent such a situation under Premier League rules, but apparantly not.

It should be mandatory in my opinion, am not sure how much it would cost to implement a system but maybe a grant should be given if its huge - but you'd expect the money made from being in the league would cover it.

Man city and Blackburn fans travelled a very long way today to get to these games and for nothing? the players and staff get paid at least and im sure the ref and his team would still get a full wage for the day.

Heard a manager in Scotland saying that the Sfa should look into the possibility of more summer football up there -

Im not saying this should be the case in England, especially given the more northern position of Scotland weather wise, but for a league that likes to call itself the best in the world, for 2 games to be called off due to the weather is a bit of a shambles.

You do have to have something in place - undersoil heating.

Apparently Portsmouth ground staff knew midweek that the game wouldn't go ahead due to the inadequate facilities but it was still dragged out.

They should be fined heavily for this.

Fulham don't have an undersoil heating system according to whatever radio station i was listening to earlier, rte im sure,

the reporter put the question on whether it should be made mandatory to Roy Hodgson and Big Sam - Hodgson said he didnt want to comment on it, and Big Sam said he thought there was a ruling and that he was dissapointed especially for the fans,

I agree both teams should be fined heavily for this.

    From THREE years ago -

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/4573244.stm

Bolton & Blackburn in pitch probe

The Premier League is to hold an investigation into the failure of the undersoil heating at Bolton and Blackburn last week.

Both matches were postponed because of frozen pitches.

"This is a prestigious competition. We can't have games called off," Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek.

"It's not fair on fans or other teams and we'll be looking into the reasons their undersoil heating failed."

The Premier League said the postponements were unacceptable in such a high-profile competition.

"We'll be asking for an explanation - undersoil heating is a specific rule in the Premiership so we can get the games played during bad weather," added Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Premier League blamed the planned end-of-season break for the problems with the Christmas fixture list.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has asked for a four-week break to prepare his players for the 2006 World Cup.

Several Premiership clubs were angry at the unsympathetic fixture schedule over the Christmas period.

"We had to shoehorn an extra fixture into the packed Christmas period," said Johnson.

"It was something Sven-Goran Eriksson and the FA were very insistent on and it was very difficult to facilitate."

Charlton's match against Newcastle on Wednesday was called off only 25 minutes before kick-off, meaning the players and fans had a wasted 600-mile round trip three days after Christmas.

Consequently, Sports Minister Richard Caborn has asked for a review of the way fixtures are arranged.

"We do take geographical considerations into account and we work very hard to do that," added Johnson.

"We have a fixtures working party, which involves the Football League, the Football Association, the police and fans' groups.

"Perhaps in the case of Charlton they got it slightly wrong and we'll be looking to make sure that's not repeated next season."

So basically the FA knew this would happen and did fuck all about it.

    Good find, thanks :)

So it is a rule and Blackburn have been on the other end themselves before.

Suppose they are about as usefull as our own crowd over here so?

10mins left in Wigan V Spurs, could be an interesting ending though. Spurs have used all 3 subs, but Gomes is in bits in goal, can barely walk. If Wigan can get some posession in Spurs half they should be shooting from everywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,588 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Looks like Wigan have the winner anyway, great header in injury time from Figeroa

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Great Header to win it for Wigan, I know Gomes was injured but if he hadnt have been out pushing into Heskey he might have been on his line for the header.

Wigan look a very well organised side, great effort from all the team no matter what area of the pitch it is - What you'd expect from a Bruce side i suppose.

I think they are the most in form team now, 18/21 points in their last 7 games.

Spurs still stuck in trouble, has the Harry effect wore off?

Yep Harry had the usual lift when a new manager comes in but that effect has well worn off now still in trouble too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

    Interesting stat:
The points totals for our 3 most recent managers in their first 12 games is :-

    1. Martin Jol's opening 12 games yielded 20 pts
    2. Juande Ramos opening 12 games yielded 20 pts
    3. Harry Redknapp opening 12 games yielded 18 pts

I want to big up Wigwam, a very small team in a small town that prays to the great gods of rugby league. Bruce gets plenty of stick but he could be on for manager of the season the way things are going (except that even if they finished 5th he wouldn't get that honour of course)

+1. He's a fantastic manager. His team play pretty good football, he's excellent in the transfer market and he's made Bramble look decent.

Him and Hodgson to fight it out for manager of the year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

and he's made Bramble look decent.

There can be no higher praise! :p

Hodgson indeed showing why he wasn't short of work for the last 35 years.
