xbox 360 controller - stop flashing ahhh

I bought an xbox 360 controller - it's good for some games all right, but when it's plugged into the usb the round xbox label flashes - WTF like microsoft way to get on my tits it's so bloody annoying flashing away there - whats the idea, anyone know how to turn it off or am I just going to have to unplug it when not in use

press the little ))) button on the console. near the big power button. it syncs the controller when its flashing
