Triathlon Runners and/or Racing Flats

    Hello All,

I'd like to try out a pair of racing shoes as opposed to "trainers".

I've been using Kayanos mostly and they feel fine. Any suggestions as to what racing flats and/or triathlon runners I could try? I'm fairly light on my feet so the Kayanos are probably more cushioned than I strictly need (at least in short races 5k/10k).

Those red Saucony triathlon runners look great but feel ridiculously light (which is the point I suppose).

    So any suggestions?

What weight are you? How tall are you?

What time do you realisitically think you'd run a 5km or 10km in?

If you are too heavy or too slow then don't go there.

Also the fact that you are running in kayanos suggests that you are a bad over-prontator which will restrict your choice or racing flat.

Looking forward to the day I pass the jiggle test again so I can break out the MayFlys :)

    I'm 5'9" (175cm) and weigh 67kg.

I want to break 20 minutes for the 5k and 41 minutes for the 10k (eventually I want to break 40 minutes because it's a nice round number!). I've done a 21 minute 5k in the past.

I've been told I pronate slightly. Might get myself checked out again. The guy in Runways reckoned the Kayanos were fine for me but that I could handle a lighter pair of runners. He suggested a pair of Mizuno (I think they were those Wave Inspire ones).

I've moved from Kyanos to Mizunos (Wave Inspire's) because the Mizunos felt a little lighter and more responsive. If you do over pronate a bit then the Mizunos should be good for you. No offence, but your goal times shouldn't require racing shoes IMO. :).

However, your probably light enough for them and I use Asics Speedstars (bit old now) for short races. Very little support in them though, wouldn't be good for training or +5m distances (for me that is as I'm heavier and overpronate).

    Hey Guys,

Im looking at getting a pair of easy slip on sockless triathlon runners. I see there is a few brands out there like zoot, newton, saucony and Iam wondering does anybody have any positive/negative experiences with these style of runners, I over pronate so my choice is probably severly reduced but any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers
