with sterling so good i'm looking at buying a set very soon, either online or up north. i had my eye on the KDL40V4000 but it seems to have vanished from the sites (last one was directtvs a few days ago at under 600) so i would presume that model is now discontinued. my dad has the KDL40V3500 which seems like a good set and a friend has a similar sony, so i'm leaning towards sony.

I'm not viewing any HD content at the moment, its mainly gonna be used for SD sky SD dvd's and 360, but down the line i will purchase a blue ray player. i just want to future proof myself, with a max budget of €700 at a push.

    any advice?

I got a KDL40V4000 from Laptops Direct in the last week and I highly recommend it as value for money. My usage is similar to your own also. I suggest you fire off a mail to them and ask when/if they will have it back in stock. Sterling is rising at the moment though, I have calculated a €38 difference in the total cost between today and this time last week.

Having said that you are still saving well over €100 on the best local shop prices.

ok, so i spent an hour calling local shops and looking online for prices on the 40v4000.

cheapest online: sams yer man including delivery €760 (circa)

cheapest local: ganleys hardware athlone: €799

ganleys may come down if i haggle though, and if they do i'll go with them.

i still cant see any difference between the L and V series, does anyone know?
