Has anyone heard anything about this? All I know is it's a prequel and Kate Beckingsale isn't in it. That's kinda ruined it for me now!

I'd be inclined to give this one a chance.

I remember going the the cinema to see the first one, I wasn't expecting much, but was more than pleasantly surprised.

It's definitely a series with more style over substance, but I just found the first two to be great "no-brainer" movies.

well it was supposed to be out tomorrow ! (9th jan 09) but the bastards put it back to the 23rd for some reason. still thats not too long of a wait.

i liked the first two too. brainless fun in the blade vein and christ knows the genre stuff been a bit duff lately

as the OP has said it is indeed beckingsale less but as the story is the prequel thats supposed to set up the ground work of the first two films plot wise ( kates character being adopted by vincent because she looks like his daughter who literally shacked up with a dog. ) you get to see a new hotty thats surprisingly close looking to ms beckingsale who hooks up with the leader of the lycans (cant even remember the blokes NAME now :) ) and we get to see the formation of the lycan nation and their bid for freedom

kinda like spartacus with werewovles :)

im looking forward to it. it should be fun

Anyone else think the ad looks a bit funny.

Like your watching a copy or something.

    Im looking forward to this.

No, the ad caught my eye - same camerawork as the other two movies, but hey, that's not surprising! :D

For the record, the leader of the Lycans (and coolest character in the series), was Marcus.

The leader of the Vampires was (and more so, I think, than the other two "elders") Victor.

I actually thought Lucian was very good in the first one. Looking forward to going to see it.

Damnit, LUCIAN was the leader of the lycans!!! My bad, I can only chalk this down to being tired...:o

    *hangs head in shame* :(

Didn't like the first one that much but the second one was OK, will more then likely end up going to see this as well.

I did nt mean the camera angles more like the picture.

Actually come to think of it, its like the sequesnces in the first movie when they show scenes from the past. That could be it.

William was the first werewolf. Marcus was the first vampire.
Victor, amelia and marcus were the original vampire leaders, marcus was kept secret as the first vampire to protect them, and for victor to assume full control.

The delectable Rhona "I wanna lick you up and down till you say stop" Mitra is in this one. I'm there already, brainless movie or not.

In spite of posting this, I'm probably going to end up seeing this.

9 Reasons You Shouldn't See Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
by Mindy Monez January 15, 2009 3:36 PM

Obviously, no one's dying to see Underworld: Rise of Lycans. I'm not saying that anyone is. I'm just saying that if maybe you've seen everything that's out already and come next Friday night you're thinking, "Hey, I don't mind spending 12 bucks to see some vampires and werewolves fight," the way I see it there are a lot of reasons to be dissuaded. Nine, to be exact.

    1) The Danny McBride who wrote it isn't the Foot Fist Way guy; he's the stunt coordinator for something called The Feminine Touch guy who made the Foot Fist Way guy put an "R." in the middle of his name on IMDB.

    2) Len Wiseman wants nothing to do with it, and neither did any other self-respecting director/regular director/film student/Youtube account holder, apparently, because the special effects guy from Battlefield Earth ended up having to direct it.

    3) The way the guy in the trailer says "We can be SLAVES!!! Or we can be - LYCANS!!!!!!!!!" sounds exactly like "This. Is. SPARTA!!!" only more ridiculous.

    4) If I wanted vampires-and-werewolves-as-thinly-veiled-social-commentary-on-bigotry-and-forbidden-love I'd watch True Blood because at least that thing has nudity and a lighting scheme with more colors than "blue" and "dark blue". Also, don't try to teach me not to be racist with your slave characters being portrayed by monstrous dogs, because that's pretty racist, actually.

    5) Nobody likes prequels. Just ask George Lucas.

    6) Bill Nighy can't fly in real life, and this is just a sad, 90-minute reminder of that painful fact.

    7) Rhona Mitra deserves better than this, so stop enabling her terrible film choices. That being said, Doomsday was awesome. I'd actually support a third installment of Doomsday.

    8) The way it's made exclusively for 12-year-old boys, and if you go see it in theaters the ticket counter guy is totally going to look at you like a pedophile, as will all the 12-year-old boys surrounding you.

    9) But most importantly, it's no different than the two films that preceded it, except this one has a cheaper cast and the guy who did the special effects for Battlefield Earth at the helm. Also it looks like Queen of the Damned but blue. And worse.

Indeed: also to be seen in a film called Doomsday, which is excellent. I reckon this will work out well

    Just back from this now

    I liked it

Bein a prequel it sucked knowin what would happen, but it's about how it happened

a few plot holes and cheesy lines, but the action and gore was funn

BTW, Underworld 4 is confirmed to be made, pickin up after the 2nd one
    yay!!!

I just hope its not a remake of Blade

I liked the first two. Have both on dvd and bluray. In saying that I'll more than likely what till this comes out on bluray before having a look

Rhona Mitra is way better that Beckinsdale and i must admit Sheen is kinda hot

I wasn't too Pushed on it TBH,

I thought Lucian's character was very good but I was hoping for a better end then him just basically
Shout for the other wolves to turn up
    .

Thought she was better then Beckinsale too. It kinda pissed me off how in underworld Vicktor was the stongest of all vampires and pretty much single handedly owned a group of them that he's
daughter beats him in a sword fight
    ,

    I'd give it a below average 2.0/5
