Clothes Swap

    Hi All,
@ Mods: I'm not sure if this suggestion is ok to make so if it isn't, feel free to delete!

I recently donated 5 black bags of clothes to a charity shop, and am in the process of sorting out more. I saw a feature on Nationwide the other evening about a shop that does 'clothes swapping' and it reminded me of an idea I read a couple of years ago about 'clothes swapping evenings', and I thought that due to many people trying to spend wiser, people might like to have the opportunity to do something like that.
So basically, my question is, is there an interest in this kind of thing, and if so, between us could we organise one?

Hey Cazlou I would be really interested in this. I have so much stuff to give away, would be really interested in participating and helping to organize.

Id love to start something like this in Galway..we have lots of charity shops but most stuff is give or take..all the galway deposits get shipped elsewhere I think apart from a few items...I'd support ye from afar!!

Yep, that's the one that was on Nationwide - but I was suggesting one here because personally saturdays aren't convenient, and I'm sure I'm not the only person in that position! If one was organised it could be held on an evening or a time that would suit all, maybe reserve an area/room somewhere - and particularly if we could get somewhere with no charge maybe each person could make a small donation for charity - be it the SSF or one picked by attendees?

@ acorntoast: cool! well we can monitor interest over the next week or so - and run off a few ideas in the meantime
@ LadyPennyworth: yeah that's my main concern about the charity shops - a lot lick the cream of the crop for themselves/or if they're overloaded a lot ends up dumped- and only the bare bones actually make it into the shop

A friend of a friend runs one in Edinburgh I think, I will try to find out how she runs it.

Will also check out the one in Shebeen Chic on Saturdays, as I live in town.

I like this idea also. There was someone trying to set one up on Bebo and I actually sent a mail asking for more info but I haven't had a reply. I have a few things as well that I'd like to give but also get something in exchange if you know what I mean. As a couple of things still have tags on them etc. Please keep me in the loop in relation to this. Great idea!!

i would also be very interested in this!! i'll gladly help promote/spread the word about it.

(is the one on georges st on during the day or evening?)

Ah that'd be a great help!:) Does she run a shop or the meets?

I'm the same! although a few things I did throw in the wash to freshen up so had to remove the tags, I'm sure a lot of people would have things that were bought for them that they've never worn.
I think one thing we'd have to look at is how to rate the clothes - or would it just be piece for piece...Hmmm...:pac:

I don't know myself when it is - I tried google but all I got was their restaurant reviews:pac:

I delighted that there seems to be a lot of interest, hopefully we'll be able to pull something off!:D

I would also be happy to volunteer to help out with the meets or sorting clothes etc. Any evening except Monday and Wednesday (Sometimes) would suit. Hope this helps. PM me if you need anything.

AFAIK Shebeen is just starting out, so I'm helping spread the word :D I on't know how busy it is.

It's on on Saturday daytime. If you're finding Saturday day isn't a viable option, why not ask Steven the manager if you could do it downstair in his other premises "Thomas House" on Thomas St on a weekday evening?

I also want to point out, I do not work for Shebeen/Thomas house any of the establishments mentioned here, just helping out.

    hi,
I was just wondering can you litterally go into the stitch or switch shop and swap your clothes for other ones?
Do the clothes you give have to be designer labels?

    It's mostly non designer clothes.
They give you vouchers for the clothes you bring and you use the vouchers to pay for things you buy but you don't need vouchers, you can just pay with cash if you don't have enough vouchers.

Anyone else had any thoughts on organising one in Dublin? I'm so bad at organising stuff its not even funny but I am willing to volunteer to help with sorting etc. Would really love for this to take off.

It's on Chambers Bar on Washington street, all day every day and the swap night is once a month, don't know when the next one is.
