Need help hooking up a keyboard to my laptop

    Hi guys,

    Apologies if this is covered somewhere else, but I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff....

    I'd like to use some piano/keyboard teaching software I've got knocking about, and need to connect my keyboard to my laptop.

    Basically the suite says I need to hook up my keyboard to a sound card's MIDI socket. Problem is, since I only have a laptop I haven't got one.

    Are there any cheap external sound cards with a MIDI input? I've had a look at a bunch of external sound cards online, but none seem to explicitly say 'MIDI INPUT'. I'm not after anything high-quality, just a very basic, no-frills solution. Thanks in advance!

    Not exactly what you are asking for, but i have mine hooked up via a Midi -> USB adaptor.. Cost about 15 STG from Maplins.. Might be worth checking if that would work with your software..

    swissonic do a midi to usb adapter available from www.thomann.de as well, when plugged in it shows up as midi in with all the software i tried it with
