Anybody know if uk vintage regs can be bought/sold in the uk, I bought a 1937 car in uk with what I think is the origonal number plate. Of course I will now have to re-register it here in Ireland and get a zv plate-just wondering if I can sell the origonal uk plate.

YES BUT the car HAS to be taxed and Mot'd AND the authoorities MAY want to inspect it, which means you have a prob if its already exported.

a 1937 number could well be quite valuble...try asking one of the specialists for advice

I don't think all UK plates are transferable, but I have no idea which ones aren't.

I know if it already has a re-issued number it cant be transferred.
Maybe you might find something on here?

You would be able to get some idea of its possible value by having a look at some of the UK numberplates for sale websites. Presumably you have one of the three letters, three numbers type plates. Value tends to be in the 'initials' market with single low numbers or a string such as 666. When you have an indication of value you can decide whether it might be worth selling.

Could that plate be retained? Ireland was still a dominion of the crown in 1937 (although a free state obviously).

All original numbers can be transferred...Ones issued to replace origianl numbers are non-transferrable as are all age-related plates issued on an imported car (for instance). It will be stated in the V5 if it is non-transferrable.

The girl in the VRT office said I could not keep the plate in Ireland - would have to get a ZV plate or a new 37 plate, however I wasnt fully convinced about her knowledge of the whole thing either.

As far as I know the plate on the car now is the origonal plate issued in 1937, the car did carry a re-issued plate for while but the previous owner applied to have the origonal plate re-applied when the car became vintage age and he joined a vintage club.

I wouldnt think its a very desirable plate really - DTU followed by three numbers.
