A few friends and I are going interrailing during the summer.

We had intended on going from Holland/Belgium out eastwards and then back west by a more southern route taking in cities like Amsterdam, Bruges, Berlin, Copenhagen, Krakow, Prague, Budapest, Munich etc.

We were going for 3 weeks. Any one have any opinions on the projected route or any advice? I think myself that we might be caught for time in some places. What cities do people who have gone interrailing recommend?

I've done a simliar trip when i was 20. All great cities.

I would cut out Copenhagen as it is a bit out of the way, very expensive and hardly party town. While it is a beautiful city you will bore of it after a day.

Considering the route you are going i highly recommend 2 days in Hamburg. A cracking city, great to go out in and if you are a bunch of lads then it is a must see place.

Nice one mate. Heard Copenhagen was meant to be good, thought it was a bit of a diversion to be honest.

Thanks for the advice. Roll on Summer!

Tis lovely but more somewhere you would go with the partner on an anniversary and certainly not worth going all the way up there.

Hamburg is your place to go and on the route.

If you have the time in Belgium, check out Ghent: Bruges is very touristy...Ghent is a university town & not so busy: I think its better than Bruges but Bruges is cool as well.

Budapest is an amazing city: be sure to check out the baths!
    Best cure for a hangover!!

    Good travels!!

+1 for Budapest and then the next logical stop is Vienna just 3 hours away or something on train if I recall which is well worth a visit.

I was not that pushed on warsaw I didn't see it in your list but perhaps for consideration.

Cut the amount of cities in half if I were you...In three weeks you'd be lucky to get in more than 2/3 cities a week.....give yourself time to take them all in, and remember that it could be almost a days travelling between places, which eats into time spent exploring!

i was in Copenhagen interrailling a few years ago. we camped just outside which was alright but it might be a bit out of the way for the area you're planning to travel in. i can't recommend Lake Bled in Slovenia enough. it's an adventure town where you can do rafting, caving and even skydiving (all cheap). i was a bit apprehensive of it beforehand because i lumped it in with Slovakia which i heard nothing but bad reviews about but it's truly beautiful. it's often compared to New Zealand.

Berlin and Munich were probably my favourite places. absolutely brilliant historic value and great night life.
