I don't know what it is but I can't seem to get into the spirit of days like Australia Day, Christmas Day or New Years Eve. Even St Patrick's Day is just a glorified excuse for a piss up. I would much prefer to celebrate the birthday of someone who is close me or do something completely spontaneous instead.

Will find it hard to get away for this weekend due to price of accomodation so if the weather is good hopefully will hit the beach in Bronte,Sydney followed by a BBQ or something.

Actually looking forward to having no real plans.......just relax

Am making a big effort to get excited about things like Australia Day, because this is my home country now, for better or worse, and I find its exuberant effort at patriotism to be rather endearing. Not having the history of a few thousand years of western-type culture, days like Australia Day are important to give people a sense of Australian identity.

So I'm going to a birthday party on the Sunday night (in poxy Prahran of all places dagnammit), and on the Monday I'm sure I'll be either throwing or attending a barbecue.

There will be ribs in char siu sauce.

There will be prawns with lemongrass.

    There will be PAV.

    There will be PAV.

Mmmm Pav, I ate half one by myself on Christmas day.

Not doing anything for Australia DAy, being in New Zealand but for Waitangi day, which is the 6th February, a Friday I'm going on a camping trip up New Plymouth way. Can't wait!

Australia day loses out to Anzac Day in my opinion as its much better

    Christmas ...well thats a hassle

New Years days got more disappiontment as I got older

St Paddys day well I will see how how goes here , In my opinion if you make an effort on these days it can work out really well.

As for the last bit you can do both?

I think it's a load of old bollocks but will appreciate the day off work. They should really have a "Shame Day" for killing all the abos instead.

    Snap!

I'll be very very hungover somewhere and maybe taking in one of the Sydney Festival shows.

Not gonna do much myself. Probably bring an esky down to a park and kick a bit of ball in the sun with a group of people. Might ramble in to that Sky Fest in the evening.

Essentially it's just a day off work though.

OK here is the plan ...

We front up at MAJD's bbq. You create a scene in the house. I will take care of all the lovely bbq food outside. As you are being escorted out I will slip away with the pavlova and other tucker. I will meet you at a secret location and you can feast on pavlova to your hearts content while I chomp on prawns and ribs.

    :pac:

Yeah sure they should, chances are most of the lads doing the shooting where Irish.

If the offences of the Australian state bother you so much you should think long and hard before staying here and passing on your tax dollars to your murdering hosts.

no i just think they should recognise the aboriginal people of this land and treat them with a bit more respect, e.g. New Zealand.

I have to admit dont have a huge amount of experience with Aborginal Aussies but the few dealings I have had have been fairly bad. I have not traveled far outside the large Cities.

I do believe offences where commited in the countrys early years but all country's have that. However I do believe the goverment are honestly trying to now give the Aborgine's a fair shot now.

would you feckin' blame them for having chips on their shoulders? Australians are lucky they don't seem capable of any proper resistance...

    It's a deal!

    mod mode:
Can we get back on topic please? We had a thread before on Aboriginal issues which I had to lock because it got out of hand. This thread is about what you're doing on Australia day. Any more discussion of Aboriginal issues and there will be infractions/bannings and/or a thread lock.

People, again, this is not a thread on aboriginals, please do not bring it up again and stay on topic.

Next time I'll be infracting etc which I'd really rather not do. As mentioned above a previous thread where the discussion got on to this got really out of hand and I had to ban people. I'd rather we didn't go there again.

    Thanks.

I know, it's funny how that can of worms can creep in to the most unrelated threads.
