    Hi,

I am looking to get a logo designed for my company. I want a few different size jpegs etc for use on my website and letterhead.

I see there are places on the web that do it for £25 in England.

Is this something you can do yourself? or it is better paying a company to do it? Any recommendations?

Instead of bitmaps (jpeg) go for vector graphics which are scalable without losing definition.

Some cool tools out there for this kind of thing.

I used this once - it was very easy to use and good.

It depends on several factors, particularly what stage of business you're at and what your business type is. If you're 0-6 months in you might not want to spend anything on your appearance (depending on your vertical).

If you spent €0-50 you will usually get exactly what you pay for (i.e. not a lot) unless you get very lucky. Don't run a "competition" or ask for spec work.

If you spent €75-150 you can get a high quality logo from a freelance designer who specialises in logo design (look on elance, scriptlance, logopond).

You can spend €300-x000 on a design from a professional design company. LogOn.ie (my web & graphic design company) would be happy to quote based on your specification. (That's about 1% of our portfolio there, if you're interested I can send on some more - please contact via the link there or PM me here on boards)

I'd recommend one of the latter two options if you're looking for a professional appearance.

just to point out, I used someone from E-lance and was disgusted that the person just used basic logo ideas - I had created better designs myself in photoshop......be sure and ask for previous examples of their work.

also www.Odesk.com is another site for freelancers

I think this happens fairly often. Read through the reviews, particularly look for people who have strong communication skills mentioned in there (that's the top skill I'd look for after design skill).

This is also one of the reasons I recommend going to a design company if you're looking for a quality logo with a lot of thought and care put into the design - you really do have to pay for that. No matter what they say, there really is no such thing as the free lunch :)

If you can, try come up with a design yourself, draw/sketch it as best as possible and then present it to a design company to vectorise it and you're done. That's what I did with the two logos in my signature and it worked out very cheap and I think the logos are good myself :)

    Hi fugee,

Just so you know I used 25poundlogo.co.uk for a website I was making. To be honest their line about no clip art images is a crock. There is no way I could use the design as my main logo so I got my web designer to make another one. As a sign of the times I did'nt want to throw away £25 :p so I did incorporate one of the logo's they sent me. If you check out rmt.ie , on the left hand side, the FÁS Student Centre logo is what I got back. I think it works in this context but remember the brief was for a logo for a tradesman rating site and I got back somthing that looks awfully like sonic the hedgehog.

I don't mean to sound too negative but my advice from experience would be to shop around locally. I think a logo is a very important aspect of the company so you should be able to communicate with your designer

We started of with a clipart logo we liked and then when The business had been going for a while got a graphic designer to develop that concept further.
