This is not your typical where to stay tread in Paris, I have been looking and have recieved some recommendations about where to stay BUT is it me or are the rooms in Paris(unless you pay 300+ per night) a bit run down.

That the impression I'm getting anyway, I was hoping to pay 200per night but the rooms don't look nice at all. Ill keep looking and maybe I might have my mind changed.

I dont want to bring the girl over to a crappy looking room. In a room I wont even be staying that long in.

    Let me know your opinions
    Thanks

Over last year and we stayed in hotel ibis in cambronne. 89e per night. Found the place to be very nice and really only used it to sleep. Never ate in hotel so cant comment on the dining. What ever deal was on we got 3nights for 49e and then 2 at weekend for 89. And its only few underground stops from champs elysee. And 5mins walk from the eiffel tower. There are lots of places and didnt see anywhere as cheap as we got.

This place is lovely and reasonably priced. Rooms are on the small side, as a lot of hotels in Paris are, but the shower we had was massive.

It's a 3 minute walk from the Eiffle Tower and just beside a Metro station.

To be perfectly honest OP, whenever I go to Paris, I just look for convenient cheap hotels and don't worry about the standard of the accommodation. As you say, unless you're paying out big bucks, you're not going to get anything luxurious and there's not much difference between 1 and 3 star in Paris (IMHO).

Unless you're planning to spend the weekend in your room (not impossible) I'd suggest not sweating about the rooms and focus on location so that you can get the most out of Paris itself.

agree with OP, quality of hotel rooms/furnishings are below standard. Taking 3 of us to DLP in 3 weeks time but struggling to get a hotel close to DLP of a decent standard.

    Any ideas ?

    Have a look here.
Stayed with my GF last year.
    http://www.jpmoser.com/brightonhotel.html

Absolutely fantastic spot... Think we payed around €180 per night. Lovely room, view of Tuileries Gardens, Lourve and Eiffel tower. 50yards from Metro station. Lots of nice coffee shops around also..

If i go back, i'm definately staying here...

You should try priceline.com and bid for a room. You should be able to get a 4* for about 100 Euro

Hotel St. Jacques and Hotel Valadon were reccommended to me beofre. Both have very good reviews on tripadvisor AFAIR

    thanks for the replys all,

The brighton hotel looks good but priceline.com seems to good to be true. ill take that site with a pinch of salt.

So some people confirm that hotels in Paris in general are a bit over rated and over priced, but I suppose price meets demand in the end

Priceline is a site that you need a little skill to use. The prices though are to be believed. It's not a scam or a rip-off you just need to understand how the site works.

Brighton is very well situated in town but wouldn't be considered a bargain as it's usually expensive.

What do you consider to be "reasonably priced" ?

I've sent people looking for a nice central to the Hotel Favart. It should be about €120 per night

You should have a look on trip advisor at some hotels. This is a great site for reviews and some people upload photos of the rooms, thats the best part. I neever book any hotel without looking on trip advisor to see what others say about it.

would you believe I went with priceline.com for a hotel room(after much thought)
I could find any reasonable nice priced rooms in my opinion so I took a chance with priceline after a few recommendations.

    I got a 3-4* hotel for $130 per night. novotelparisleshalles.com
I thought this wasnt bad considering it is in the middle of the city, its a big name hotel and the fact I only in tend to be in the room for sleeping I think its a good deal

Novotel are a pretty big hotel company over in France, they sponsor Olympique Lyon. They're owned by the same company that operate Ibis (Accor hotels) and Novotel is the more upmarket of the two.

To be honest OP, I'd agree with MikeDragon32 bout the hotel situation in Paris. Unless you're willing to spend big bucks you won't get a huge standard in accomodation. But you don't need huge standards. Imo you only need the room to sleep in as there is so much to do in Paris itself you shouldn't be in your room only to sleep! Its a fantastic city but the expense of the place is par for the course (especially around the tourist areas - but as with any other place, if you wander off the beaten track a bit you'll find more value).

We stayed in an Ibis hotel in Boulogne Billancourt last year (pretty close to the Parc Des Princes which was +++ for me as I'm a pretty big football fan) and it was perfect. The metro made it easy to get into the city centre and the area itself was fine.

Basically, you're better off saving a few euro on the accomodation and spend it elsewhere like eating out or something similar.
