I'm thinking of picking up Mount and Blade but was curious if anyone here has played it and what they thought of it.

Looks rather spiffing in a clippity cloppity sort of way horsie.gif

It's interesting. Worth a look. Raph recommended it to me, so he'll be able to rant a bit more about it :)

I think it's fantastic. Can get fairly repetative and sometimes you won't have a clue what you're doing. Plus, there's a fairly dedicated mod community.

You should be able to pick up the demo on Gamespot or some other game sites. It'll give you the gist of it.

Good game i downloaded a few mods best i tried was Swords of Damocles easy install and really brings a lot diplomatically to the game that is usually lacking also a new story new factions the ability to hire 150+ men at once new Armour its just a good game and a great mod. Small download also big things do come in small packages :)

The fighting and gameplay is nice, but the quests are terrible. It's not even a sandbox. Endless fights with no goal and reason. I got bored and deleted it.

I have been playing the mount and blade series for years. They are in my top 5 games and I've put over 3000 hours into them at this stage. Id recommend getting mount and blade warband as it has the most mods, least bugs and multiplayer as well. Both the single player and multiplayer in this are really unique, there has been a ton of popular mods for it throughout the years.
I can't think of any single player mods off the top of my head but there is ALOT of them that change things from the era the game is set in, just adding features of the original campaign to complete rehauls.

    Multiplayer Mods:

MM (Mount & Musket) - Basically sets Warband in the Napoleonic era, It was insanely popular about 2 years ago with insane numbers of people playing it (for a mod) 100's of public servers a lot of them would be populated during peak hours. The best thing about this mod were these player events called "Line Battles". There was hundreds of small and large player communities called Regiments that would fight in line battles simpler to the way war was fought during the Napoleonic era. Most of these regiments would be RP or semi-RP with rank structures and have training sessions etc.

NW (Napoleonic Wars DLC) - Basically MM expect a lot more profession and all the communities from MM have moved over to this DLC and it is still nearly as popular as MM, They added a lot of nice features with this DLC that wouldn't have been possible with just the mod tools and if you decide to get Warband and are interested in multiplayer this is a must buy!

PW (president world) - An RP mod where players can do a bunch of different tasks to make gold which can then be used to buy equipment etc, Everything from being a bandit, an assassin, part of a city watch to just a plan old farmer is possible :) every server has different maps and unique features.

Mount and Gladius - A mod that isn't as popular anymore but I think there is one similar to it out now. It is a mod that sets Warbands multiplayer back in the roman times. I used to be the second in command of the larges roman cohort and there was multiple events throughout the week ever week which we would attend.

Secession - Set in civil war america, was my personal favorite. Not nearly as popular as MM or NW. Its not around anymore but it has a nice community for about 2 years and was really fun.

These are just a few examples of 100's of mods released for warband and there is always new ones coming out.

All in all, if you get warband your paying for one game but getting thousands.
There is plenty videos of youtube of warband and all the mods I've mentioned.

    Hope I helped :p
(sorry for any spell / grammar mistakes, I just sped through this)
