Are DUB and JFK getting retrofitted at any point?

From the Aer Lingus Wikipedia Page:
Aer lingus plans to upgrade the inflight entertainment systems and seating on board its older Airbus A330s, beginning in January 2009. A new A330 is due to be delivered to the airline direct from Airbus in January 2009, with another A330 arriving in summer 2009.

MSN 1025 is also due to be delivered in June. During the year EI shall retire 2 of their aircraft (EI-CRK,EI-EWR) So by end of summer the fleet shall be 4 new A330s (DUZ,DUO,EAV,?) 3 retrofitted A330s (LAX,DAA,ORD,) and two older config A333s (DUB,JFK)

so they're gettin rid of a 200 and a 300 (EWR & CRK) and are being replaced by DUO & DUZ respectivly, are EAV and "?" a 200 & a 300 aswell then? what are EAV and "?" ?

Will they own these new aircraft or are they leased?

They are supposed to be getting the A350 XWB.

    Long Haul Fleet
The long-haul fleet consists of nine Airbus A330 aircraft, with six Airbus A330 due for delivery from 2009, and six Airbus A350 XWB (Extra Wide Body) due for delivery from 2014.

To Confirm, EI-CRK and EI-EWR are leaving the Aer Lingus Fleet. They wil go on their C-Checks but will not be returning afterwards to EI. As of this moment the fleet comprises of CRK,DUB,JFK,ORD,DUZ (all -300's) and LAX,EWR,DAA and DUO. So currently fleet is 9 a/c.
EI-EAV is scheduled for Delivery on Feb 2nd and within a week or two EI-CRK will be going for it C Check and to be painted, thus leaving the Fleet. In June, EI will take delivery of MSN 1025. The Reg is yet to be decided. EWR will have most likely left the fleet by then. Therefore the fleet will comprise of 9 Aircraft, but operation requirement will only have a need for 8 operating a/c. Now thats the big question on the ninth a/c...i am not sure at the moment the plan for it. It may either be used as a Standby Aircraft and parked up in either Dublin or Shannon, or it could be deployed to Gatwick and used on charters for other airlines or else it may leave the fleet completely. No decision made as of yet.

I would doubt very much if it would be used solely as a standby a/c.

Leaving the fleet would be more likely option.

    Just my opinion.

Have they any plans or financial ability to add to the long range fleet further and add new routes?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 956 ✭✭✭Jim236

Looks like they'll be deploying part of their A330 fleet outside Ireland from next year:
Aer Lingus is extending its relationship with United Airlines on some long-haul services between Europe and the US, and has held out the prospect of forming a new joint venture company with the US airline.

The two airlines will launch a daily service between Washington and Madrid from March 2010. Additional routes may be made available from next year for services to begin in Summer 2011.

The airlines expect the new partnership to report a 'marginal' level of profit in the first year. Aer Lingus will provide three planes, which will be leased to the partnership, and the planes will have the Aer Lingus logo on the outside with joint branding inside.

Recruitment for the new partnership will be in the US. Tickets will be on sale in around six weeks.

EI-EAV is contracted to arrive in from FEB. However while the new paint job looks fab in Chateauroux - Deols, it didn't arrive back in TLS like that. A lot of paint peeled off aircraft on its return to TLS. Paint didn't bond correctly with aircraft. Will prob have to get painted again. Delivery will be delayed for another week or two.
EI-DAA is also in for painting at mo and due for C check after this.

why do they need to deploy 3 A330's on the IAD-MAD route. It will only be one flight a day so only need one A330 on that route.
If they need to swap a/c for maintenance an aircraft change can happen in IAD and the plane can route back to DUB.
Also if anything happened in MAD to a/c, being Aer Lingus they will position replacement down to MAD. No need to have 3 planes on that route.

If you ask me, i'm glad Aer Lingus are re-newing their fleet. It's about time that they updated their technology and interiors.
I took a flight over and back from New York last christmas in EI-LAX and EI-EWR. Two aircraft that i'm glad i'll never have to sit in again. Gum under the hand rests, scratches on the windows etc...

Could any of you tell me which aircraft is due to fly on DUB-MCO on the 14th/21st of March.

Pretty long flight so kinda hoping for the new on demand enertainment system and seats either retro-fitted or on the new aircraft.

Love the new interior. So needed!

    Thanks.

I flew return to IAD with Aer Lingus last week and I reckon the plane on the way out was the first one AL ever bought! However the one on the way home was a lovely new A330, personalised TV's etc - much more comfortable.

Ha,if only running an transatlantic airline operation was as simple and easy as MS flight sim:rolleyes:

Bramble, spot on as usual. With all the problems in the world at present, its very prudent of EI to make sure their traditionally big yielding/highest profile routes are well looked after by the new metal.

Every airline does the same to an extent. Same reason why the US carriers send their new metal to LHR for example.

Just spotted confirmation that EI are expecting their next A330 in 'mid-june'. Reg will be EI-EDY.

Hi just writing a thing on Aer Lingus where did you find out this and does the plane have a saints name yet?

    thanks

New aircraft shall all be A330-300. EI press releases have referred to them as A330E. They are in fact the now standard A330-300. DUO was an aircraft originally destined for a Mid East airline, they cancelled or deferred and EI took the op to get it early. Its galley are different from DUZ and all the incoming A333s.

DUB and JFK will not be retrofitted with new cabin as they will be returned to leaser/sold in 2011. ORD shall be the last of the 'old' A333s to leave the fleet in 2012. In 2012 and 2013 DAA and LAX shall be replaced. This is the current plan and may change due to economy/fuel prices/Ryanair etc...........

Just wondering about this, 1. How did you get this/Where did you get this?
    2. Why would aer lingus upgrade an aircraft for them to sell 3/4 years later? (ORD)
    3. Why will JFK and DUB not be 'UPdated'?

Thanks and sorry for the load of questions

yes Bramble is right....the 105 is a priority T/A flight. If they are down a unit and need to re jig, the 105 takes precedent. Hopefully they remain in business.

This is my first time on this aircraft thread and I see the same bickering that is evident in others. we are all the same size on a computer keyboard and it would be interesting to see the real person.

rather than an aircraft admirers thread ,especially those in the magnificient livery of Aer Lingus, it becomes a pro AL, anti Ryanair thingy. Why attack barname for what he says. Al s magnificent liveried planes are terrific, the fact that its union ridden company is heading southwards is not the point.

that said I find this subject fascinating and want to ask a question.

there obviously are "roads" up there in the sky. Where can I read up on then on the web. I travel a lot in europe and see droves of planes on these" roads". It appears they pass over airports en route,i assume as a safety precaution.

I have read that the EU would like to streamline air traffic control as the present situation of each country having its own adds an extra 29 km to the average journey.

Anyway, can someone point me in the direction of an easy to read website on this.

    regards,Rugbyman

The are called airways. Over Ireland, generally they are not followed as aircraft are giving shortcuts usually to the FIR exit point in each case, for west and eastbound traffic.

With airports en route, the ETOPS rule comes into effect. (Extended twin range operations) with various types of it- 120 min, 180 min, 320 min etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETOPS

    Thankyou Neon,

any info on a map of airways over europe, perhaps i can google it.

    Other questions
1 how many aircraft are in the air over Europe at any one moment?
2 how many in transit between europe and the US at any time,?
3 do those trans atlantic flights originating in Europe fly over ireland,

    regards, Rugbyman
