Only by chance did I notice today that my CPU according to CPU-Z is running at only 1600MHZ.

So I thought this was normal and that speed stepping was reducing my speed. So I ran an Intel program to use up 100% of both cores. Same result.

So I thought it was just CPU-Z and tried another CPU program. Same result. One program called CPUINFO which can be seen in the picture reports 2666MHZ but the Stepping is at 6.

I had a look in bios and all temperature are okay, but the multiplier is at 6 there also.

I ran another program called Sandra to benchmark the CPU. In the picture in can be seen that I'm running at half of what I should be running at.

Sandra is also reporting a strange error at the bottom of my CPU info
Warning W227 - CPU FSB higher than rated FSB of the CPU. Even if you’re below the CPU rated speed, by over clocking the FSB you are running the CPU I/O buffers above spec – just be aware of this.

Fix: Reduce the FSB to rated FSB. You can increase the multiplier if the resulting speed is less than CPU rated speed.

Check the bios, make sure the multiplier isn't set at 6.

Also try a cmos clear and load defaults.

I tried that earlier and it asked me for some DEC code...

So I tried it again and put in 9 as the DEC code. Turns out that set my multiplier to 9 :D

But when I run the Intel Thermal Analysis , the temperature hits 82 degress when both cores are run on full load for a few minutes. Is that high?

Also, any ideas WHY on earth my CPU game with a 6 multiplier? No wonder Ive been having issues running Supreme Commander and everyone else can doddle along.
