Indeed and i can't wait for its release! A big question mark will be Marion Cotillard's accent.

First leaks of people who attended the shooting as extras etc... seems to say she mastered the American accent of Billie Frechette but we will never know until we hear her.

Has anyone read the book it's based on?

Great - another remake of some classic gangster movie from the '30s.

It isn't a remake. There's been a few films made about Dillinger but nothing worth getting excited about afaik.

Yeah, it's excellent. But Mann is just focusing on Dillinger for the film, where as the book covers all the legendary Depression-era criminals: Bonnie & Clyde, Machine Gun Kelly, Floyd, Nelson, Alvin Karpis, the formation of the FBI, etc. It's quite long and in-depth but very well written. Keep in mind it's non-fiction and Mann has had to change a lot of things for dramatic effect.

One thing that should be pointed out about the film is that it isn't going to be like Heat with a cop and criminal going head to head. The film might as well be called Dillinger. Bale's role in it is fairly small and underdeveloped, nothing like Pacino in Heat. In reality, Purvis was somewhat incompetent and made a lot of sloppy mistakes. The FBI was in it's early days and most of it's agents were just lawyers with guns. Mann will probably gloss a lot of this over but not too much.

    I've read the script. :D

All the early reviews confirm this also. Unless Mann has gone back and done significant re-shoots and expanded the role. But I doubt it.

Anyone else see the '70s Dillinger with Warren Oates?
