Hi, Was looking at the KDL46W4500. The price is the same on both 1staudiovisual.co.uk and directtvs.co.uk. However directtvs delivers for £100 cheaper. The problem is that the quoted model on directtvs is KDL46W4500u. The “u” is for the UK model, I think.
Is there any difference in the KDL46W4500 and KDL46W4500u wwt the Mpeg4 tuner or anything else?
    Thanks

Nn difference whatsoever, the U only stands for UK. All european w series sonys have the mpeg4 tuner afaik, regardless of the country it is being sold in.

Does anyone have any experience with these retailers. I am about to order a 52 inch Sony from 1st audiovisual but I have never dealt with them before so I am a little nervous.

    Cheers

Good luck with directtvs. Some boardsies including myself have had problems ordering with that company but hopefully, you'll be fine. If your payment is quickly accepted, then you wont be waiting long at all for your TV. Their delivery is pretty snappy once the goods are dispatched.

Let us know what the tv is like too:)

TV came yesterday. Box was in good nick and no problem setting up the TV, Freeview satellite and the Irish analogue channels all look good. Have a HTPC and it connected in fine through the VGA. Upgrading the HTPCs graphics card for HDMI and the tuner card to get rid of the (SKY) freeview box.
Overall the TV worked out over 650e cheaper than a shop. But with only 1 year warranty, shops were giving a 5 year. If it packs up after a few years I am sure the price will have come down by then.

I have a KDL46W4500 being delivered from directtv on Monday. Why and how are you upgrading the graphics card ? Also, what do you pick up from freeview satellite ? All i am doing is upgrading to Sky+HD (late next week).
I guess i am sounding like a complete novice here !

The graphics card is on the PC. Upgrading the PC graphics card to be able to connect to the TV through a HDMI port and also might put a Blu-Ray player in the PC.

At the moment I have a Sky box and using that to pick up the freeview channels, link to list below.

This thread has me a bit worried about my 4500 that is due to arrive tomorrow:

Further substance is added to the claims of these issues based on the price of the 4500 in my local sony centre. They have a 4500 with free blue ray player for €1899 and a 4000 with no blue ray player for €1799.

The problems are well documented and only effect some W4500, its the chance you take but you can always return it.

As for the price thats just the retailer not marking down old stock.

I picked up a new 40W4500 on Saturday. It's a fantastic TV! Particularly on Blueray - the HD movies look incredible on it. Admittedly, SD (Sky) isn't so good, but I expected that, and tweaking the settings has made it look decent.

If I look really really closely - i.e. with my nose an inch from the screen, I can see some of this so-called "clouding", mostly on the top left corner. But I can only see it when the screen is completely blank, like when you are switching from one AV channel to another. I'd never have noticed it had I not read about it... I looked at a buddy's Samsung yesterday and his also has it a little bit. I think it's just a characteristic of these bright LCD panels.
