I am planning to take advantage of the GBP/Euro exchange rate & go Up North to buy a new Television, but will it receive all the terrestrial Stations down here in the South? in other words will it be compatable with the NTL analogue signal ?

I live in Dublin & I have the basic Chorus/NTL package (17 TV channels) ...........

Isnt there an issue with UHF/VHF or something like that ?

or am I OK to buy ?

Not all tv's up north will have the VHF tuner needed to receive all analogue channels on NTL. Some will however so you are best to do your homework before you go.

However the Analogue won't be on UPC much longer (probably), and is much poorer than their digital signal for many places.

If it has a Digital tuner, that is unlikely to work here.

Its beginning to look like a bad idea to take advantage of the exchange rate & buy a UK TV .........

The Panasonic 32LZ81 is on sale in Richer Sounds at the moment for 599GBP. A great price considering there is an inbuilt Freesat HD and MPEG4 DTT tuner. No set top boxes and no subscription to Sky/UPC. Thinkiing of getting one for the bedroom.

OP - If you can put up a sat dish you should be able to get all FTA channels with no sub. You should be able to get DTT RTE on an internal aerial in Dublin

    Hi,
i bought a tv Samsung LE37A656A in the UK and beat the shelf price by 300 euro, the set is excellent great picture quality and that is only with Freesat SD. The set comes with a digital tuner for freeview, can anyone advise is this going to work with the IRL DTT when it is roled out, as it is I can pick up a test signal in audio and video on the digital tuner (Dublin lcation) but for RTE1 /2 & TV3 I get audio signal only and no picture. Any ideas? If its not compatiable its not the end of the world if I need to fork out for ANOTHER box for freeview, I am building up quite a collection of boxes as it is :)

So... I just read a post with the same problem... no MPEG4 suport on my TV. Looks like another box is the only way forward, no matter i would still have bought the set anyway
