Macho Man Randy Savage (Wont happen)
The Honky Tonk Man (wasnt the greatest)
    Howard Finkle (good shout)
Miss Elizabeth (not sure, plus her Savage connections and the circumstances of her death)
    Sensational Sherri Martel (already In)
    The Undertaker (not now)
Ted DiBiase Million Dollar Man (good shout)
    HBK Shawn Michaels (not now)
    The Road Warriors (Good shout)
Owen Hart ( dont know if he did enough, but i'd like to see it)
Bam Bam Bigelow: (wouldnt argue against it)
Hacksaw Jim Duggan (Just for hanging around?, a no for me)
Yokozuna (Wasnt good enough and didnt do enough for me)
Brian Pillman (good wrestler but didnt really do enough, premature death isnt an automatic right im afraid)
Rick Rude (Made wrestling history, so I wouldnt argue it)
Chris Candido (dont think so, seemed nice enough but wasnt HOF despite being a good wrestler)
Sunny (the original diva but not much else unless favours are taken into account not for me)
Jake The Snake Roberts (Had the skill but burned his own bridges and you couldnt give him a live mic i'd say)
Marty Jannetty( for being Shawn Michaels tag team partner and an all round **** up?, again a no for me)

    Just my opinions

    How did i do?

It's all at the whim of Vince at the end of the day. It'll be the usual mixture of "main event" names and a half dozen others thrown in too. It's enjoyable all the same.

With it being in Texas, they may induct the whole Von Erich family.

    Pretty spot on Edk lad.

Stone Cold as well is a near-certainty given that its Texas.

Just on a couple of Edk's thoughts:

They were prepared to give the Iron Sheik the mic so I think they'd risk Jake Roberts. Plus they put him out on live tv for a segment in the Orton/'Taker feud which says something.

On Pillman, he didn't really do enough? This is the WWE Hall of fame. There is no rationale to it other than who Vince McMahon wants to put in it. And to be fair to Bryan Pillman he did alot more than many of the people already inducted in the Hall of Fame.

Pillman was not in the WWE too long though, the accident really hindered him unfortunately, Although the whole Pillmans got a gun segment deserves to get him in there :)

The WWE doesnt want to affect its image though if they can help it, and i dont think Jake would be top of the spokespeople list

My moneys on Stone Cold as being that one big name.

    And maybe The Rock?

Jake wopuld probably take his c*ck out though and puke down himself, if any of his last few public appearances are anything to go by.

    James Dudley- Vince's limo driver
    "Baron" Mikel Scicluna- jobber
    Johnny Rodz- jobber
Tony Atlas- not very talented. But he had a body so Vince liked him.
Big John Studd- not very talented.
George "The Animal" Steele- The 1980's version of Eugene.
Mr. Fuji- horrible manager. After Harvey Wippleman the worst in the WWE for that period.

    And there's the celebrity wing.

And then there's the people who never even set foot in the WWE (Gagne, Bockwinkle, 99% of Harley Races career and the Blackjacks to an extent too).

And my point is not to bash the people in it. My point is that for people to say "so in so doesn't serve to be in because....." is ridiculous because there is no criteria so why even go there?

With the exception of the "main event" guys they choose for the Hall of Fame in order to push the dvd afterwards (Bret, Flair, Eddie, Hogan etc...), the rest is all a Vince McMahon lucky dip.

And it's a fun lucky dip. I just think people shouldn't take it seriously.

I know there is no criteria and I know its quite random, just expressing an opinion and a reason follows an opinion hand in hand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

The WWE Hall of Fame has zero credibility as long as Sammartino isn't in it. He was one of their top three stars ever (maybe top four now, I dunno)

It's just whoever Vince wants, based mainly on what state they're in, what DVDs they've got out and how many are still alive and willing to do business with him

Oops my bad i forgot in 2006 Sherri "Sensational" Sherri Martel (Sherri Russell) was inducted

What about the Ultimate Warrior or Stu Hart? Any chance of them getting inducted?

I doubt WWE will induct Benoit but what about Dean Malenko

you have more chance of vince putting hornschwoggle or however ya spell it in instead of warrior......they absolutley despise each other since the DVD made warrior out to be a mental patient.......which in my opinion is pretty precise!!!!! and to boot he couldnt hold a match with anythng!!!!

    How is it too early?
He has gone on about how he wont return to wrestling, how he just sees wrestling as being something he just "done" and he has adapted his real name over his ring name.

In you saying its too early is like saying your expecting him to do stuff like have more great matches, do a few tours etc etc.
If thats not a proper reason why...

And inducting the two biggest names ever in wrestling at once concretes a great HOF of 09.

Im not saying that my word is set in stone, but i can see more reasons to have him inducted this year than not to.

I dont think Rock will be inducted this year if Austin is going to be.
Purely cos I cant see Vince using 2 of the sports biggest ever stars in on the one night.Austins appearence will guarantee ratings so hold off inducting Rocky for a couple of years when he doesnt have a banner name to induct.

WWE TO INDUCT ONE OF THE BIGGEST NAMES IN COMPANY HISTORY INTO THE HALL OF FAME THIS YEAR
    by Dave Scherer @ 2009-01-09 19:21:39

There has been a lot of talk that WWE would be inducting Steve Austin into the WWE Hall of Fame since WrestleMania will be in Texas this year. Well, whether it's by design or due to the fact that WWE is in mass layoff mode, the main page of the company's Hall of Fame subsection of their website has a graphic of Austin with the caption "HALL YEAH, HE'S IN Steve Austin leads the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2009". Whether that was meant to get out or an angry ex-employee, to use a wrestling term, "went into business for himself", we don't know.

If it's legitimate (and by that I mean if a fired employee didn't give the company a Stone Cold Salute on the way out the door), there is only one person who can induct him and I would think you all would agree that it has to be Jim Ross.

    Hall Of Fame

And now its been made obvious, ruining whatever kind of suprise wwe had planned perhaps.

    From PWInsider
A very special thanks to our friends at www.wrestlingfigs.com for altering us to the news that former wrestler, Mid-South Wrestling and UWF promoter and one time WCW head Cowboy Bill Watts has accepted an invitation to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Jim Ross this April over Wrestlemania weekend.

Watts sent the following email out today to his friends:

    Friends...

Got a very surprising call yesterday...from the offices of the WWE...(which is Vince McMahon's pro-wrestling company)...the 'flagship of the industry'....world-wide...and the 'caller'... told me 'they' had chosen me to be 'inducted into the WWE Wrestling Hall of Fame'...on the next Wrestlemania (which is their biggest annual event on pay-per-view)... Saturday...April 4th...and 'would I consent and be available to attend the festivities in Houston on that date'...and for that weekend... and I can 'assure you'...anything the WWE does like this is 'first class and then some!'

First...what an honor... to be 'recognized by one's peers'... and this...doubly so...because Vince Jr. and I have been on the 'opposite sides' of this business back when I was still active...(although his father and I worked extremely well together during his life)...

But when Vince's idea for 'his vision' of pro-wrestling was launched... it put him in an adversarial position to all other promotions here in the US... and eventually he was the 'winner'... and has built a true financial empire with 'his brand'...and changed forever the sport and industry...

Now...he and I did work together for 3 months some years back (my last active participation in the industry)...
and I gained 'huge personal respect for him'...and as a visionary...and a person...his creative genius flowed in great lock-step with me during our 'creative sessions'... he truly was one I could 'do booking with' in the same far reaching way I was taught by another true genius of our business...Eddie Graham...And everything Vince did...and how he interacted with me...was complete class... he is a detailed work-a-holic...with great self-discipline...who lives and breathes this business and his vision of it...

So...I respect him completely... even if we are 'not on point' on everything philosophically...;>)

Thus...I never 'envisioned being asked by his group' to be inducted into their Hall of Fame...so...it was 'a surprise'... a very 'pleasurable one'... and I accepted with a 'whole heart'... and look forward to this...btw...I am also going to their World HQ this month to do a 'round-table discussion' in two TV tapings...not-related to the HOF...which should also be interesting and fun...
So...I just wanted to share this with you...

I am also asked to 'choose my presenter into the HOF'...and one of the great honors I personally experienced was to be chosen by Ernie Ladd to be his presenter into this same HOF years ago...and I still grieve his fairly recent loss as he transitioned to his Heavenly home... and there are many who have contributed so damn much to my career...*(sadly also...too many that have transitioned out of this life)...

in fact...in reflecting as I write this...my 25 plus years in the industry...there were so 'damn many' true 'characters'...'unique individuals'... both in the biz and out...that contributed so tremendously to my life...that as hard as it may be for any of you to accept...'I am humbled by them...and their contributions'...and even moreso...for those who impacted me in such a major way... at a time when I did NOT take the time to even truly realize it...or value it so tremendously... to each of them... thank you!!

But without a doubt... if it is agreed to by them (WWE)...there can be 'no other'...than Jim Ross...(their JR)...as he has been with me since he was a young man...and worked his way up to my 'right hand man'... by becoming a great contributor and force in so many aspects of this business... and even now...is a VP in WWE...and one of Vince McMahon's trusted advisors...and Jim has always 'been a supporter of mine'...sometimes even to the detriment of his own career momentarily... because you just cannot hold a good man back for long...

like at WCW... when I left that operation and they 'appointed a guy named Bischoff to run it'...which in my opinion was the final straw that begin the process of totally destroying that wrestling division in Turner Broadcasting...who no longer is involved in wrestling...and in that process...Jim was 'let go'... much to his chagrin... because he had given so much of himself to them... and earned his position...and was the most talented -- and trustworthy person they had...but it became a blessing as Vince McMahon recognized his value...and hired him...and he has been with Vince ever since... while wrestling at TBS is 'no longer'... and I don't believe Bishoff has ever been more than someone's 'gopher' since...which suits his 'no-talent self'...in my 'humble opinion'...;>)

Thus... I will choose Jim to be 'my presenter'...'also hoping I can still gently influence him into writing a favorable speech about me'... and not revealing the 'few flaws' that someone so close for so many years may think they have perceived'...;>)
Of course now...as JR...he wears the 'black cowboy hat'... which sometimes also signifies being a 'villain'...;>) ...and I'm sure some of you also see him on the sidelines at every OU football game... which is his heart's delight now too... but even there he is wearing that 'black hat'...

But myself...with my 'pure heart'...I wear a white cowboy hat... a true 'babyface'... a hero...handsome and trustworthy... and all that other stuff so associated... and after all...as Sputnik Monroe used to say... and now I have plagiarized: "I am the women's pet and the men's regret!"...;>)

and 'not now'...just a 'legend in my own mind'... as some may have somehow thought...;>)

    But a Hall of Famer...

    Yours truly,

    Cowboy Bill Watts

Im kinda glad I have decent tickets for the Hall Of Fame with an inductee announced before the onsale date especially Austin, demand will go up,

Obviously there will be loads of tickets but the good ones will be snapped up, They've never announced an Inductee before selling they before as far as I know but you have to wonder why as it can only help the initial ticket sales

I thought they announced Flair before the ticket sale? The ticket sale is very early this year (wasn't it March last year?)

PWInsider.com is reporting that Steve Austin has specifically requested that Ric Flair induct him into the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame. While this may not come as much of a surprise to some, it will be interesting to see how WWE handles this situation given the fact that Flair is no longer with the company and left on rather shaky terms.

I expected JR / The Rock / Vince to induct SCSA

Ric Flair will now be inducting his greatest in-ring adversary, Ricky Steamboat into the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame this April. Steve Austin originally requested Flair induct him into the Hall, but the word making the rounds is that Vince McMahon was unhappy word got out about it and shot that down. There's no word who will induct Austin now as of yet.

can't see many of these getting in (particularly those that are deceased). with the movie the wrestler pushing pw more into the public eye and the recent publication of the report about steroid abuse in pw I cant imagine vince wanting to raise the profile of any wrestler that died young.

would like to see steamboat inducted

    Woohoo :D

Funk brothers, Dory and Terry, are going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Dusty Rhodes will be inducting them.
