I've recently had a sky+ box installed in my bedroom and it seems to be emitting a high pitched noise all the time, its very annoying when trying to sleep at night!
Is this normal or is there any settings I can change on the box to stop this?
    Any help will be appreciated!

    No it's not normal.
Is the Digibox new or refurbished?
    What's the make and model?
    See list: http://sam-radford.me.uk/skyplus.htm

    I think this is normal.

Hard drive will spin while recording if you have anytime enabled.

only way of stopping it would be switch it off at the plug before going to bed.

anytime can be disabled in menu.

Is it one of the older 40gb grade A boxes??
Dodgy ones used to emit a high pitched whistle noise when the drive would spin up.

Disks are always noisy man. If you disabled sky anytime and rewind then the disk should only make noise when it is recording.

It should be new,it says on the box its an Amstrad DRX280,It gives off a high pitched whistling noise all the time, even when turned to standby, should I just plug it out at night?

If its brand new then you would be 100% entitled to a replacement.

Its definitely the disk that is causing the problem though.

Yes I only had it installed on friday morning, ive disabled anytime because I never use it anyways, what do you mean about re-winding the disk after ive disabled anytime though?im new to this so it may seem a stupid qustion!

I think you can disable instant rewind. Should be under Sky+ Setup.
This means that the disk wont be actively recording what you are looking at.

And in theory should mean the disk is only being used when you are actually recording or pausing live tv.

I've turned off live pause aswell and it hasn't seemed to made a difference, will it harm the box if i keep it unplugged at night when im sleeping?I think that is the easiest solution!
when it was installed the installer from a comapny called sierra gave me their card and it says to call them if I have difficulties with the box in the first 30 days so I'll give them a bell tomorrow aswell, its an irish number too so wont be on hold on a 0870 num for ages!

Sounds like you got a refurbed box.

It should have been brand new because I've paid e140 for a new box and non standard install.the people who posted on the forum above are experiencing the same high pitched noise that I am so its a box fault and not just mine obviously.I rang sierra and asked for a replacement box and an engineer is due out in a few days, hopefully the new box will nice and quiet!
Thanks everybody for all your advice and help!
