    Dublin.

When people say "town" or "the city" they mean Dublin. When are people here going to get rid of the chip on their shoulders about that? If it's Galway they will say Galway, if it's Cork they will say Cork. Jeez, it's not that hard.

Well when i say it i mean hamburg, or when im in ireland town means galway.

Dublin isnt the only place in ireland etc....

Yeah, you would've thought it wouldn't be that hard to say "Dublin" instead of "town" either but here we are.

Well for a start, Dublin's harder to say than town because Dublin has three syllables whereas town only has two. And when typing, Dublin has six letters (one of them capital) and town only has four.

    Time is precious.

    That's a good point , but i doubt there's a Sky shop in http://www.ststephensgreen.com/, or
    http://www.ssgt.ie/

Is there a Stephen's Green shopping centre in Cork or Galway? Or anywhere else in Ireland?

I officially crown you the King of the Dubs (on Boards.ie)... "Dublin has three syllables" is the most Dub-il-lin thing I've ever seen displayed in text. Fantastic.

Must be time for the weekly culchie rant against the capital.

Maybe they should pop down to Super-Macs and get a burger to go with the
chips on their shoulders. They don't seem to object too harshly with receiving
an education in the universities in Dublin or collecting a salary by working in
a company based in the city.

How are there 3 syllables in Dublin? Maybe if you're Scottish..

What's this Scottish mumbo jumbo all about? The proper way to pronounce Toblerone is Toe-eh-buh-leh-roe-inn.

Maybe we should take on board our country cousin's sensitivities with regards to their not coming from Dublin and henceforth refer to dublin as "city" rather than "town". Given that dublin is the only city on this island, not only will this avoid any confusion but will also ensure that the spud gobblers beloved chip's remain firmly embedded on their shoulder.

Or maybe when some smartarse says "town, where?", when Stephen's Green was already mentioned, they could just be ignored.

What town are you talking about in that post?

Only joking of course, I now understand that "town" in the universal phrase for "Dublin" and that pointing it out is only a sign of my backwards "culchie" ways and rabid jealousy for not being from Dublin. Silly me for forgetting the world revolves around "the only city in Ireland." Jesus, that's quite a prestigious honour, allow me to bow my way out of the room to your endless supiorority to us foolish bog-trotters.
