Hi -my top four front teeth are very wobbly -two/three years ago the dentist suggested root planing and scaling, which I did not do as I did not have the €200 for the periodontist appt. plus the €500 for the treatment :(

Both of my front teeth have given me agony over the last two weeks, the two either side are loose but not painful - and one front has now gone a horrid browny/pinky colour:( literally in the last two days, but funnily enough not hurting all of a sudden...... I know in my heart of hearts that these 4 teeth have got to go.

I am now in receipt of a medical card - I'm just wondering if a partial denture is covered -I would prefer a fixed bridge but need an idea of price:( Husband is not working -is it prohibitive? or else I can never ever open my mouth again.:(

I am so horribly depressed about it :(:(

If you can find a dentist to take you on as a medical card patient, the partial denture is covered by it. Bridge work is not an option in your current dental condition, the bridge will only be as strong as the teeth supporting it and if the teeth are in poor periodontal condition, the prognosis is poor. You may need to undergo comprehensive periodontal treatment to improve the health of the gum and bone around teeth prior to bridgework. Do not allow a dentist to place a bridge without first taking x-rays and treating the gum disease regardless of how cheap you can get it, it will fail in a short period of time.

OOOh thank you so much for replying! I have the dentist - apparently the front four top teeth are screwed, but the other ones are ok,(or were last time I went) so I'm hoping a bridge might be possible.

Do dntists whip out your teeth and put a partial in straight away? Or does one have to suffer the humiliation of going toothless for weeks on end?

An "immediate" denture is made before extractions and fitted on day teeth removed so you should not have any time without front teeth. But due to shrinkage of bone/gums after extractions, the denture will become loose after approx 3 months and will probably need to be replaced. Your medical card will only cover one top denture so you will be charged for a replacement if it has to be made 3 months later. The shrinkage is a natural process and cannot be prevented and is likely to be more substantial in areas where there is gum disease.

Well I went to a dentist today - four front top teeth have got to go:( I will be having it done on Friday and am a nervous WRECK. Apparently my canines are ok so a bridge will be possible at a later date -how long will it take for the gum to heal in order to do it? My nightmare was to be front toothless,so at least that wont happen.I will be having an immediate plate :(

I have opted for conscious sedation, very expensive at €170 but I don't think I could do it otherwise. I'm TOTALLY totally dreading it :(:(:(

recommended healing time is three months plus, I like to allow 4-5 months when doing fixed cosmetic work (implant crowns/bridgework), you will realise you made the right decision in a week or so, good luck
