I'm a big fan of Legend of the Overfiend, love Hellsing and generally horror anime.I've seen all the usual ones that people always go on about(Akira, Ghost in the Shell) and I am just not a fan of Ghibli studios.I've been looking around for some new anime to look at in the same vein as the above, something horrific and action filled with a good adult story(I don't mean porn),but I can't find anything decent.I've tried a few different ones with out being recommended them and went totally wrong(last one I watched was Angel Sanctuary, really crap), only saw Ninja Scroll a few nights ago and enjoyed it(reminded me of Fist of the North Star.
So basically guys, does any one have any good recommendations for me, with out giving the usual famous anime?

At the risk of suggesting something too obvious, Vampire Hunter D?

Saw that one too, very good recommendation though.Really enjoyed it, its exactly the kind of movie I'm looking for, was checking out other movies done by the same guy but I'm not sure if they're as good, they seem more sci-fi.
    Cheers for the recommendation though:)

The two latest appleseeds. Obvious choice i know.

I had two manga movies on video called Monster City and Wicked City. Where fairly good from what i remember. Been a long time since i watched them. Wicked city would be the better of the two.

    Check out Blood+ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood%2B)

    (from this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_The_Last_Vampire)

Also the Hellsing series was quite good. Erm...nothing else I can think of that fits the horror genre.

Mightn't be what you're looking for, but IMO, the Ghost in the Shell 'Stand Alone Complex' series blow the movies out of the water.

There's a Cowboy Bebop movie that's interesting, but you'd probably want to be familiar with the series before watching it.

And for God's sake do watch Bebop.

+1 on Ghost in the Shell, it is a brilliant anime.

Cowboy bebop is excellent but its so different from Overfiend I never really liked Overfiend. Vampire Hunter D and Blood the last vampire are quite good.

2nd series of Stand Alone Complex is a masterpiece, absolute masterpiece.

Along with The Wire, one of those rare great achievements in television.

As good as the wire, really! Would I have to look at the other series before I looked at it and do they follow on from the movies?Sounds like a very interesting prospect.

I wouldn't say it's AS good, but it is definitely one of the greatest I've seen, not only of anime.

It doesn't follow on from the movies. It is an alternate story in itself and no you don't have to watch the 1st series. Although pretty good, I found the first series to have a lot of filler and some patchy animation in places.
