footage too bright when transferred

    I have been transferring old high 8 footage to my hardrive. Some of it is to bright almost white. I cant see an editing function on this on windows movie maker or ulead which i have been trying to use. am i missing something.

    Contrast controls the amount of white level. Try adjusting it.
    More advanced video filters are on other systems that can fix overexposed camera shots a little but not sure if you have much control with Movie Maker or Ulead. Does Ulead not include any filtering? If not, the latest version of Ulead (now Corel) is X2. Download the trial version from www.download.com and see how you get on.
    Remember though, you'll never get things perfect with poor source material.
