leave it to dry in an airing cupboard for a week, take out battery and do NOT turn it on untill a week has passed.
Its dangerous to turn it on because the moisture can short out the components.

+1, take it apart as much as possible, and leave it in a hotpress. After 3/4 days try it. You might get lucky.

Might be covered under the house insurance if you have any? Or under credit card item insurance as some credit cards insure items bought up to 90 days?

True, several credit card companies will cover any and all damage inside of the first 90 days, assuming you bought the laptop with your account with them of course. Unfortunately, it will not be covered under the standard limited warranty which only covers material defects. Unless you shelled out for accidental cover you are out of luck.
