Caveman Diet and Muscle Gain

    Hi,

I've only just started the caveman diet (nuts, fruit, veg, meat, fish, nothing else) and am already feeling better after only 3 days. No bloated feelings, no heartburn, although for some reason I feel more tired than usual (may not be related to the diet, guess I will find out over time).

I'm just wondering will I find it hard to gain muscle on this type of diet? Most people seem to use it for weight loss purposes, whereas I'm still in the process of adding muscle. I'm wondering if while I'm trying to gain mass should I continue on with a high carb diet including brown rice, brown bread, porridge, etc?

    Cheers.

I know nothing. Now that is outta the way... :D

I reckong you'lll start to feel okay in about a week, you're probably just adjusting to having less carbs.

Maybe one day a week stuff your face with as many carbs as possible to repair glycogen cells (if that makes sense cause you're already eating unspecified fruit).

And as ya know the key to gaining weight is eating a surplus of calories so I'm sure ya can do it on this diet dude.

Read The Anabolic Diet link in my signature, it might interest ya. It's like what you're already on but on weekdays you'd have to keep your carbs under 30g a day. And then on weekends eat up to 500 a day! Check it out.

Edit: I typed this post to teh beat of Gimme Back My Bullets by Lynyrd Skynard.

    Cheers for the reply.

The fruit I'm eating would be about 1 banana, 1 pear, 1 plum. Veg would be 1 1/2 onions, 1 carrot, 1 pepper, 3 or 4 mushrooms.

    Enough carbs here?

Just realised when I put the above into words, I probably should be eating more fruit.

Why are you trying to add muscle on this diet...the Atkins diet would be much better for something like this!

I'm not the sort of person that usually goes on diets. I just read up about the Caveman Diet and it makes sense to me, therefore I'm giving it a go. My question is, if I'm on this diet is it going to inhibit me making muscle gains at the same rate as before I began the diet?

Whats the difference, they are both high in proteins and fats and low in carbs?

What a coincidence. I was reading that thread the other day called 'Paleo Diet and Crossfit'.

    http://www-srv-3.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055225986

One the of fitness forums top 5 threads imo!

Covers a lot of what will probably arise here!

Errr no it would not  , op Firstly make sure the meat you are eating is as lean as possible most of your fats should come from nuts , red fish and eggs secondly I would avoid fruit and just pile on the veg I find bags of green isle veg great (it’s 2 for 2.50) and it's all pre preped:D

Be aware that cavemen did in fact eat carbs. They would grind acorns, wheat or grains when they were available and make a sort of gruel. This handily enables you to have porridge for breakfast!

You may gain muscle, you probably won't. You will get leaner so you'll see what muscle you have better.

My major problem with caveman/paleo is the fact that of every 100 people who try it and do it, probably 99 will drop out of it because of it's lack of sustainability. I know lots of people who did paleo and caveman or whatever you want to call it (I'm one of them) but I don't know a single person who has done it for more than a few months.

Add to that the pseudo scientific nature of the whole thing and you have a recipe for failure.
