Hey guys, was just wondering if there was any reason everybody plays fifa rather than pes, just that the boards league thing in fifa sounded cool but I don't like the game (and i know its much better than it was but i'm a pes fan), so was just wondering is there any pes league for boards - or is it even possible to have one??

Here's the problem, PES has its own forum.
edit: I got a loan of PES earlier in the week, didnt think it was all that great, looks pretty, but FIFA is better tbh

I've always likes Fifa and occasionally I try the latest version of PES, but it never grabs me!

Prefer Pes. It is practically unplayable online though. pes at home with a few mates and controllers is still where its at for me.

Well I won't be giving Konami any more money after caught with that stinking pile of poo that was PES 2008. Got FIFA for the first time last year, and I think its far better than PES now.

Its goals from Tip-Off that made me hate Fifa years ago.

The physics etc all feel wrong for me, even in 09.

I have FIFA 09 and have played PES09 this year. I had FIFA 08 and PES2008 last year. It is my humble opinion that football games are at a low ebb. This year's FIFA is good, but flawed. With the assisted shooting and passing on it's fun to play, and quasi-realistic, but gets much too easy with practice, even on Legendary. It's possible to beat Brazil or Argentina quite easily with an average team like Switzerland, South Korea or Ireland (hur hur). Turn off those options and the game veers off the other way, and becomes impossible. Passes are very hard to measure, even little ten or fifteen yard ones if its even slightly out of line with your body, a ridiculous and untrue state of affairs. Shooting is broken, no other way to describe it, it's just broken. Want to score any other goal apart from a close range finish or tap in? Good luck. It's just like it was in 08, which I find absurd. Why fix the shooting, or at least get close to the solution with the shooting when you turn on the assistance and then go regress back to the old way? So yes, FIFA currently enjoys dominance, but it has major flaws.

Not that PES this year is better. It's worse. Simplistic passing, some awful sound effects and a bizzare shooting system which harks back to PES4 in some ways. As for last year's arcadey joke, the less said the better. So PES has regressed majorly as well from a position where it appeared to be close to perfection only two or three short years ago.

So what's the solution? Well, FIFA would do well I feel to look to the past of PES in my opinion, to be precise the shooting of PES 5 and 6. The (assisted) passing is ok I feel, but a slightly more forgiving style of the shooting in those games would fit the bill perfectly I feel. FIFA has already copied those games templates pretty heavily already, raiding them again wouldn't cause too big a stir.

As for PES? Again, go back to the past, specifically the most recent of it's good games in PES6, and build from there. Make headers more competitive, makes throws less stiff, and, again, slightly relax the shooting.

Tl:dr? FIFA is better this year but not perfect, PES has a lot of work to do, both should look to the PES's of the past to build for the future.

You raise some valid points about FIFA. I wouldn't say shooting is broken though, i've scored some quite varied goals too. Granted, it's tough to score from distance but it's not impossible (i've a few uploaded screamers as proof) the passing could do with work. I use semi-assisted on everything apart from through balls and crosses which are manual, i tried everything on manual and it was bloody hard! too hard for me, a mere mortal. I played PES only fleetingly this year and i thought it played horrendously.

Fully manual is just ridiculous. We're not actual footballers, if we were we'd play the sport as pro's.

I think that it speaks volumes that you've left the shooting on semi-assisted even with your mastery of it. That still needs to be put right imo.

What would you like to see both do next year Bombleswizzum? And what was both series' most recent high points in your opinion?

Ha!, i'm no master by any means... i'd like to see lots of improvements in both games, FIFA needs tweaking in a few areas, most notably passing & shooting as mentioned already. I used to love PES (when it was PES 4 & 5, 6 even to an extent) but the last 2 have been spectacular only in their incompetence imo.

We're getting a little bit off the OP's topic, but I feel that this question needs to be asked.

Why did Konami change PES in the way that they did?

It makes no sense. They had an amazing game going, they had critical adulation never mind respect, and they were catching FIFA saleswise. So why did they go arcadey all of a sudden? They aped FIFA 99 with PES 2007 for goodness sake, where did that come from? And to top it off, how did FIFA come to be top dog now? By aping PES 5+6. I'm baffled by that, and I always will be. Konami threw their success away, and they were sooooo cloooose to perfection. Why did they do it?

    Define arcadey.

What specifically did you feel changed between 6 and PES2009 (we can ignore 2008).

I just don't see how anyone can feel FIFA09 is more realistic than PES2009.

I am in the minority for once, obviously, but as someone who plays and watches alot of football-FIFA just seems....off.....everything is so rigid.

Arcadey is an unnaturaly fast or fluid way of playing, the degree to which the game changes end to end in PES these days is too fast, especially in comparison with the measured (but not slow) pace in PES's 5+6. You could definitley shift the ball quick from box to box, and along the ground in those games, but you had to know what you were doing. I feel that is one of FIFA's stregnths, especially this year, counter-attacking from a corner feels brilliant, especially with a team suited to it (ie. Man United, Inter). I can understand why you feel that FIFA is rigid, it is certainly more stodgy in feel initially than it's rival. But if you preserve, and it will take time, you certainly will get better, and it will feel more natural.

As I've posted in this thread previously FIFA has it's flaws. But, sadly in some ways, I feel that it's the best that there is right now.

I agree PES2009 is far from perfect. For me though its that game thats the best of a bad bunch. I think 2009 is slower than 2008 though, I don't agree 2009 is alot faster than 6.

It's an unnatural middle ground I feel. For me, I just wish that they would go back to the PES 6 build. They were so close to perfection with it, all that I can really think of are the throw ins and headers. Please Konami, just go back. By going back you'd actually be going forward. Usually it's the opposite. Here it's the only thing to do.

I have them both for different reason, pes for when the boys call round, have a few beers, play pes, happy out. Fifa for playing on my own and online. Simple.

Stopped playing FIFA after the 2000 version and was ISS/Pro Evo fan ever since PES 2008 which was plainly disgracful.

Went back to FIFA in 08 and have not looked back.

Konami are simply idiotic fools for what they have done to one of the greatest series of sporting games ever, all the work up to Pro Evo 6 is being flushed down the drain one feels.
