Here's a great BBC documentary on Record Producers.

There's a terrific segment with Brian Eno who covers many (simple!) ideas that I agree with regarding production and studios in general.

(Forgive me if I've posted this before!)

    Now there's a real producer.

In my experience a producer is someone who tries to tell the drummer in the nicest way possible that his rolls aren't landing on the beat and he should play the song straighter.:D

Seriously though, I think one of the main rolls of a producer is to get the band to play within their limits for the benefit of the song. This usually starts with getting the drummer to play straighter and use the same beat for each verse/chorus. It is amazing how many inexperienced drummers will change the kick pattern each time they play a part.

    Hey Paul,
I can't open the Iplayer because the BBC recognise that my Mac is not in the UK. How did you manage to overcome this?

    Thanks

    Rocksr.

Yes, I love the stuff ! Generally the older stuff repeats every few months too so if you miss it now you should get another chance.
