    hi,

I met a lovely girl a couple of weeks ago, was kinda strange as i rarely meet someone i get on with so well in the pub! things are going well and that. The thing is i know she intends on travelling for a year with a couple of friends some time this year. am i mad to try and start something here? or should i just see what happens?

Don't think about that. Think about having fun.

enjoy the time you have together - if she does leave and travel .... who knows.... you could keep in contact and maybe meet somewhere along her travels.

Just enjoy it, have fun and carry on as normal!

If you're still together when she goes just say goodbye, and you can always see if there's still a spark when you come back.

No point shooting yourself in the foot now, by worrying about potential problems that are a few months down the road. I'm sure FutureYou will be much more equipped to deal with that situation! :)

Just go for it. You never know what could happen. Things could be fantastic and you will stay together when she travels. You can visit her while she is away. Circumstances also change, something could come up and she might not go traveling

    Devil's advocate:

By getting involved in something that you know is likely to be dead-end, you are inevitably going to end up getting hurt down the line. Think about a few months down the line. Walk away before you get too emotionally involved. You'll meet someone else.

    :)

I was faced with the same situation a while back. Met a lovely guy but found out soon enough that he was going to go travelling in about four months. So we said we'd play it cool and just enjoy the few months, knowing that he'd be leaving. When the time for him to go arrived, it was awful, we had become very close. We decided to keep in contact and see how it went. Contact was kinda patchy though, so often he didn't have a lot of coverage and being on the move a lot it was impossible to write to eachother. We managed a number of e-mails but it could be a week or two between each time he could gain access to the internet.

Three months after he left he surprised me by arriving at my door at eight in the morning, best surprise ever. And two and half years later we're still together :)

Now I'm not suggesting that it would work that well for everyone, but it is possible. Don't reject an opportunity like that because you're afraid of getting hurt. Enjoy the time you have together and just see what happens. Could be life changing :)

thanks for the pearls of wisdom everyone :D

To be honest i dont think i can walk away as i do like her, but hey this could all end well before she plans to go or it might not, im too into her to walk away though. So ill just play it cool and try not to get carried away.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine. Met a girl 2 months before she headed to aus for a year. He decided to just hang out with her anyway and they continued emailing and phoning when she went away so he decided to pack up and go over to her and they are still together after 7 months travelling aus together. If it happens it happens, if not then she is in aus and you move on.

I think these 2 stories prove it is worth giving it a go. Don't get in too deep just in case it doesn't work out, but there is a good chance it could work out :)!
