Folks see text of email i just sent to Imagine, what do you think is going on ?

    Hi

once again I am having problems with my connection speed. ( username xxxxxxxx@imagine.ie )

Whist my connection according to Speedtest.net is 6.4MB down and 511kb up my average ping to a UK server has risen from 60ms to over 300ms

I play online games a lot and need a consistent ping service

If this issue perists I will be cancelling my contract with Imagine and reverting to Eircom, this never happened with my eircom connection and you a guys are advertising that its the "same" service for less.

Well it clearly isn't, please explain why this is happening and give me an assurance that it will stop or I will cancel my account

That means you need to replace the microfilters usually.

OP im guessing you missed the many threads on the DSL upgrades.

50 ms to a irish website is normal on any package greater than 3MB. The only way to achieve low pings is to downgrade to 3MB.

Also changing to eircom wont change a thing as they have the exact same structure with pings.

Greater than 3MB Package = Irish dos pings of 45-50

3MB or less = Irish dos pings of around 20 or less

Imagine cant do a thing unless you downgrade

Yeah but I had eircom, and my pings to uk game servers were always 50 to 60ms, now on and off they go up to 300ms

When you had Eircom did you have the same speeds , i.e 6MB down?

What you should do is post a tracert on the server(s) in question then post em here. Are the ping times bad all the time or just the evenings?

    run/cmd/ tracert serveriphere

im on eircom 3MB atm and pinging 28ms to that server if it helps

Its pinging slow on an entirely different and equally congested route

web pages loading slow could be caused by the imagine proxy server all right , what browser do you use ??

Just a minor correction on the above - there is a 7Mbps consumer product that eircom launched in September (I think there's also a Bitstream equivalent that other operators offer), which has low interleaving on the upstream direction so ping times on that product should be much lower than on the 6Mbps or 7.6Mbps or higher products. Those products have high interleaving set in both directions because it helps with the stability of the service - but obviously is not optimised for gaming.

I have tested this "product" and the change in latency is almost non existent.
