Every year I try bring something new and different to my clubs.

    This year it's MMA.
I've asked John Kavanagh to conduct an MMA training day for us and he has kindly agreed.
The training will be an introduction to MMA concepts, and will focus largely on clinch and grappling.

This will be an ideal training day for anyone who might want to dip their toe into the world of MMA concepts as part of a new years resolution!
It will be beginner orientated, so whether you're interested in MMA as a sport or the self defence aspects of it, you're more than welcome to pop along.

    DATE:- Sunday 15th February

VENUE:- Synergy MA centre, Bannow Road, Cabra. Serviced by many bus routes.

    TIME: - 11AM - 1PM (lunch break) 2pm - 4pm

    COST: - €50

PM me if your interested or give me a buzz - 0857309740

John is highly regarded as the main drive behind MMA in Ireland and is a succesful MMA coach and BJJ black belt.

    :)

As opposed to a beginner class in an MMA gym? ;)

    Best of luck with it.

    Ah what the hell!
It's really for my own lads who I have to pretend to that I actually know what they're talking about when they go on about UFC :D
Looking forward to learning about clinch stuff though, intriguing!

Why don't you come around... so I can sub-mission your ass ;)

It's a date. I'll wear my best flowery shorts. I actually keep meaning to drop around and see your new place (and get me fob!!) and I'll probably be around sooner than that. If there's a space for me though I'll go cos it's always interesting to see how John coaches and I'm sure I'll get a lot from it.

Can you do this as a beginner or is it only for people who are experienced at martial arts?

it will be suitable for absolute beginners, in fact not having done any martial arts may be an advantage.

    see you on the day

    john :)

When the student is ready, the master will appear
Tim hit the nail on the head when he said its a slipper slope Jon. We had an innocent enough seminar with John in my Taekwondo club way way back, and now I don't do TKD anymore. It often goes like that, Kavanagh and his Martial Arts heroin :)

Crackin' seminar today with John, everyone thoroughly enjoyed, not as much as I did though. John has a great ability at teaching and explaining, I picked up a raft of stuff. We worked on clinch, take downs and some ground work.

I would just like to thank everyone who came with an empty cup, and also a big thanks to John and Ais Daly for a great session.

I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Was meant to come down but the weather was decent so football with the boy took preference instead! Glad you had a good session Jon.

Thanks very much to Jon for organising this - that's a 2nd great seminar in your club in a couple of weeks!

Big thanks to John Kavanagh too, and Aisling. Great teaching, making things easy to learn and the 4 hours flew by! Really enjoyed it.

Few aches and pains this morning though! Back, neck and calf muscle!

    Thanks again,

    Simon

Same here! It looks easy, but boy is it not! Still the aches kinda make you feel like you worked your arse off, so it's all good!

Loved it, and loved the approach taken by John which made them feel like they were getting somewhere, and they were!

They got a chance to see John and Ais' roll at the end too, although they were just having a laugh, you could see the fluidity and the technique in action. Great feed back from all.

That's great to hear. You had Debra and Normal down for it too I hear (I have eyes everywhere :) ).

Won't be long now before we'll have some TKD folk in the MMA League again... :pac:
