Ya they definetly made it look bad, if I hadn't seen Dexter already and saw that ad on TV3 I wouldn't bother watching it! They showed no good scenes or clips from it!:(
They are also starting to show "House" and they seem to have put alot of efort into that ad so i'm quite disappointed!:(

What was with the credits? lol?

It's like they made their own "next time on Dexter" and had the credits running under it and when the "next time on Dexter" was finished, the rest of the credits ran with no audio for a good 20 seconds or so.

It left us with a bad impression anyway.

It really shows how good it was in the beginning and how it has changed over the last while, was it only me but did dexter and deb sound different than they do now?

Watched the show for the first time tonight. I really enjoyed it and will tune in weekly (or if I get really gripped just buy a boxed set or two). Kind of reminded me of a cross between American Psycho and Nip Tuc.
Although that TV3 ad did make it look kind of lame 'the killer with a heart'. Dunno which show they were watching, but Dexter doesn't seem all that nice to me. Seems more like a psycho trying to pass himself off as a vigilante.
Oh well, time will tell.

It's due to the different TV standards. Dexter is shot on film at 24 frames per second. In the US they use NTSC standard which runs at 30fps, so 6 of the 24 frames are repeated so it plays back at the same speed. This can cause a "judder" effect when the camera is panning.

In Ireland we use the PAL standard which runs at 25fps, but the frame rate is speeded up slightly which can cause a noticeable change in sound speed and pitch.

Well you seem to know what you're talking about, thanks for clearing that up Gadgie!;)

Indeed, it is known as pal speed up. PAL versions of US films are 4% shorter. The video of the film you saw in the cinema is 4% shorter. It also raises the pitch by 1 octave. This should be corrected when the film is converted to PAL.

I haven't heard any dates yet but my guess is you could be waiting a while for season 2. It happens alot with big shows especially with RTE. You have to look no further than prison break where RTE waited for about a year and a half between two seasons. That amount of time was ridiculous and I hope TV3 don't make the same mistake. Dexter is a great show and season 4 is out in the US in September so they really should be catching up a bit. If they leave it too long people might lose interest and forget about it. It is one of the best shows to come out of the US in years so tv3 should really do their best and get season 2 on air as soon as they can.

I completely agree there with what people are saying about tv3 and the advertising, I had never heard of Dexter until I saw the ad on tv3, it in no way made me interested in watching the show.
Wasn't until the third episode when I happened to sit down 2 talk 2 my mam, who by that stage was addicted to it, & she wouldnt talk til it was over, I had no choice but to sit there & watch it.
After that I was hooked. Really good show, tv3 definitely need to get on top of the advertising & put a better effort out next time.

Does anyone know when season two will start on tv3?

I couldn't wait for season 2 to start on tv3.I went out and bought the box set in HMV for 30euro.Complete bargain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭obnicc

yeh i did see that myself, was going to buy it n said i'd wait.
i like the whole suspense of waitin to find out what happens ha.
although if it doesnt start soon, i may be tempted to just go out & buy the boxset.

    Have you watched it yet?

Half way through season 2 myself.

Watched the first season on tv recently and thought it was very good. So got 2 and 3 to watch. Season 2 is fairly good so far.
