so, what's your opinion for farming in 2009? How will we fare?

On my front, I feel really positive about the suckling. I have heard that there is a huge reduction in suckler cows in Ireland for 2009 and there is also going to be a shortage of beef in Europe in 2009 - both sources of info came from a friend who works for teagasc. They believe that suckler farmers are going to be able to turn a small profit this year for a change. All of these reductions in herd numbers in Ireland and Europe were caused by farmers getting out of cattle to plant crops (Remember, many of these people lost a lot of their crop with the bad summer and some will be looking to get back into cattle - ie, they will be buying and there will be demand.)

As for the sheep, I'm thinking about getting out and maybe keeping 10 more cows instead - it would save so much work.

So what about you? How do you predict things going for you in 2009 on the farming front??
