Espresso beans in caftiéres (noob question)

    Hi all,

    Was walking through Tesco today and came across a few packets of "Espresso" ground beans (Illy etc.). On the back of these packets it said that the coffee could be prepared using a cafetiére. Now, from what I have read on Wikipedia, Espresso does not use a different bean or roast than normal coffee, and the difference is in the preparation. So I am wondering, why is some coffee sold as Espresso when it says it can be used in a cafetiére, and would it be advisable to use this coffee in a cafetiére or would that produce an inferior cup?

    Although some blends are put together to taste best when made into espresso, the main difference is in the grind. Espresso machines require a very fine grind, much finer than is typically used for cafetieres and filter machines etc. However it wouldn't really hurt to put finely ground beas in your cafetiere - go for it and see how you get on. It certainly won't taste bad.
