Can anyone suggest a route ?? ... preferably with some hills and hardship!

Lots of possibilities in that area but essential to get off the town-town roads.

1: Do a lap of Croagh Patrick, there's some serious stand-up hills behind that mountain.

2: Achill direction..though it might be an 'out-and-back' spin. Headwind being the main challenge unless you get as far as the island.

3: Look for the 'Windy Gap' near Castlebar, (Laherdaun is to the north of it) short and sharp but with great views on the right day.

4: Head for Tourmakeady and either go on to Cong (over a bit of a climb) or turn right at the post office and head back to Westport (another cllimb), great views at the top.

    You'll need maps.
