Or so says the 1/2 page ad in today's Irish Times. Funny, last time I checked it couldn't even manage the now-obligatory five stars in the euro NCAP. First in the list of safety features is - wait for it - 7 seats. Are people really that stupid?

Do you really need to ask?

Its safer from a point of view that it will mame and kill anyone or anything it collides with due to its size.

Saw that too. Lazy advertising at its finest, something along the lines of "whether powering through the motorway, (and I quote) or on the school run, the Q7 is the safest place for your family"

Must have trouble shifting them now they're 2k a year to tax and there's no builders to commercialise them.

I actually think it is a from of Falce Advertising. The Q7 is definately NOT the safest place for your or any family.

Would everyone be in agreement that the Q7 is one of the most irrelevant cars of the 21st century so far?

I have driven one of these yokes and have to say I was impressed by the fact that it wasn't as 'boaty' as other 4 x 4's I have driven. Have to say that they are an unreal machine but totally unfashionable at the minute. A nice 2.7tdi A6 would be a real sensible motor(leaving the 7 seats issue aside).

Yep I am. Everybody else and their brother made an SUV by the time that yoke was launched. Thankfully the lot of them have finally gone out of fashion.

Yet Porsche is still to launch the Cayenne diesel ...that'll be the nail in the coffin then.

I thought the whole point of the Cayenne, as opposed to a Toureg was that it was a Porsche (granted the engine's in the front and it's a jeep, but still a kinda Porsche..) In diesel form it's just an ugly yoke that has a diesel engine, and the engine in the front. But it's still a Porsche. Not a VW. Riiiiiight...

I can only hope they won't go ahead with that. Please, let them not go ahead with that :(

To be fair, they were probably perfectly relevant at the time they were being designed (early this decade). And in my weaker moments I think they look good in a Panzer-like way. But yeah, in Ireland, with this economy and with the Greens sharing power it's game over for the Q7.

I would have to say that that trophy should go to the X6 should it not, at least the Q7 can carry more than 4 people.

porsche must surely be the worlds most sucessful car manufacturer now ( I dont mean biggest btw ) They are the one company while keeping their brand image at an all time high are flogging cars by the new time. And btw the Cayenne has been one of their most successful models ever.

Bully to Porsche if they make a diesel Cayenne - If it means they can continue to make the sports cars we all love then let them build what they like
