Why are French accents considered sexy?

... as in French people speaking English. I want to discount other factors such as how a person looks, the French reputation for sex symbols or what have you, and just concentrate on the sound of the voice. Is it really sexy, and if so how is it so?

Gotta disagree, there is definately something about the old Cork accent on men. French accent does nothing for me.

It's a soft language which flows like music as every word links with the next. I'd disagree that they sound sexy when talking english though.

Well im from Cork and find that same accent does'nt fit well on women.

Why is it that Spanish chicks have awful accents? Not all of them but a lot of them have these really grating accents where it sounds like they're 70 year olds who've smoked their entire lives and they all cluck at eachother at once.

I'm from Pennsylvania, so it's pretty much a standard American accent. I went to Boards Beers and didn't make anyone's ears bleed (afaik), so it can't be too bad!

scandinavian females seem to adopt an american or english accent, the blokes don't seem to do it as much. French accents are lovely I think, my favourite. One of my friends though has a thick german accent and he cracks me up the way he talks. My missus is from the borders in scotland and she has a really nice accent.
As for Cork accents? Some of them are horrendous but I know some people from Clonakilty and they speak nice.

Lived in France for a bit (like um 7 months!) and I think the language (from what I understand of it) is seriously sexy. It reminds me a bit of an old-style, more formal English. That said, not sure if I'm a huge fan of English spoken with a French accent - though it is cute when they make mistakes.

I've also been told by a French (male) pal that it is seriously sexy when a non-native speaker speaks French. Apparently this holds true even when the non-native speaker has a Kerry accent..... go figure!!

Ah, there's nothing sexier than a bit of standardness....I mean to be honest, a strong southern accent would go through your head after a while.
There's something more kinda nasal with the american accent, like you speak from the top of your throat and irish people tend to speak from the bottom of the throat... thats just my observation.....

Almost all American accents sound dumb to me. Not saying that all yanks are dumb but every one I hear is just so slow and loud that it sounds really stupid.

I think that's one of the reasons for the stereotype, you may not necessarily have more stupid people but your stupid people are incredibly outspoken.

Love the French accent, its soft and musicial and lends itself to whispering.

Very partial to the Italian accent for much the same reasons, and I love a Scottish accent, with the exception of the harsh inner city Glasgow one.

It is very simple:
- The French male accent (from any where that isn't Paris) is lilted, it lifts up and down, is stressed and relaxed as a sentence is spoken, it invokes hands on bodies, doing just the same thing. The eyebrow movements and twinkle in the eye are an added bonus.

- French ladies on the other hand, when speaking English, project one of two things to the (sub) average non French male.

1) I innocence and naive bearing, with her words and pausing to allow you give the word she is looking for. A honey trap for sure.

2) Then there is the wonderful, yet very rare, natural predator. Who in fact need only pinch her lips in a kissing motion and blow her name at you, like silky smoke from a fine cigarette. Her dark and mysterious tones triggering parts of your mind abandoned since adolescence (the part that made your leg tremble when you were aroused).

That is why it is sexy.

Being naturally inured to these things, via blood. I admit for me, nothing in the world compares to the elegant whispered lisp that sibilants from the sensual lips of Armagh women.

Many French women sound sensual when speaking French. But I find the French accent whilst speaking English grating most of the time.

Work in a call centre for a couple of years and you'll find you don't classify accents as 'sexy' or 'not' more a case of which one is least harsh on your ears :P
