After another year of watching the Hawaii ironman. I've decided one of my new years resolutions will be to join a triathlon club, so first off can anyone recommend a club, I know of these 2 sites but have no idea if there any use.
    www.3rocktri.com
    www.3dtri.com
I live in Rathfarnham so the nearer the better, my main problem is my swimming, I can get from A to B but with no technique and the head bobing from side to side.
And if you join a Tri club would this interfere with Boards athletic club and my membership with them as BAC is my main priority.
And do I need to know anything else, I'll plan on trying a couple of duathlons in Naas.
    Thanks in advance

i joined Belpark about 2 months ago and they are based mainly in Rathfarnham. I can only make the cycles on Saturday mornings at the moment though. They start at 9:30 from Rathfarnham every Saturday and are generally about 80 - 100km depending on weather/route. I believe they are going to go for more 100+ in nthe new year which im looking forward to. There's a weekly message posted by the lads on their google group which pans out the week ahead.Generally the week goes something like this:
    Tuesday
1830 Running: Intervals / Fartleg Run. Meeting in Terrenure College.

    Thursday
1830 Running: Circuit training followed by hill intervals. Meeting in
    Rathfarnham running clubhouse as normal.

    Friday
1900 Swim in the belvedere pool at 7pm

    Saturday
    0930 Cycle

    Sunday
0900 Running:1 Hour 45 minutes easy. Meet at Rathfarnham Clubhouse.

Its free to join and the only costs are the swimming sessions. The money there goes to the pool hire and coach. I'm hoping to make more sessions soon as im training on my own most of the week and joining them on their spin on Saturdays.

    Hi Woddle,

You already have plenty of fitness from your Marathon accomplishments this year, particularly with your constant improving times in quick succession! You are still 6 months from the summer so plenty of time to get into a group swim session. I found the group swim brought me on a lot just like running with experienced people teaches you loads. You have a great attitude and excellent work ethic so you will get there. I'm sure you can squeez a sprint or two between your Marathon plans and busy BAC activities! There is some useful info on the TI website below.

Best of luck with this NY resolution, can't wait to do my first Tri myself! I'm not done with Marathons though by a long shot ;)

The clubs in Dublin are generally quite different and are organised and operate in different ways and offer different approaches to the sport. Most are quite welcoming to new members and all are quite social outside of training.

For a newbie I'd recommend any of 3dtri, Piranha, Pulse or Belpark.

Given your location Belpark does seem to make the most sense. They are light on the swim training as a club, although most of the Dublin clubs bar Piranha are as its quite difficult to get lane time. Belpark do their running with Rathfarnham WSAF and when I was in Belpark most of the members of Belpark would run for Rathfarnham - cross country, road races, track even. Even though I'm no longer in Belpark I still run for Rathfarnham. I've alot of time for Adam Jones and the Rathfarnham running club.

I know you said that Boards AC is your priority and focus however if you do join a bricks'n'mortar triathlon club I believe that you will very quickly forget about Boards AC. You can't beat being part of a physical club.

The Naas duathlons are great fun, rather cold but great fun. See ya at the one on the 18th January!
